Call for Local Artists – 12 Design Commissions

Burlington, Ontario

Summary: The Local Artist Program is dedicated to telling local stories using local talent. Each year, the City of Burlington public art program commissions local artists to create small to medium-scale artworks throughout the city. This can take a variety of forms including murals, small-scale sculptures and functional artwork such as bike racks and benches. These commissions are open exclusively to artists residing in Burlington, Ont. Free professional development opportunities are available to assist artists with the application process and project development.

Budget: $800 per commission

CORAL GABLES PARKING GARAGE 7

Coral Gables, FL

Summary: The City of Coral Gables requests qualifications from professional working artists for consideration to create identifying artwork for the City’s new Garage 7, adjacent to the newly constructed Public Safety Building.

Budget: $400,000

Deadline: August 21, 2020

Eligibility Requirements: Professional artists or artist-led teams with experience creating light-based artwork.

Special Notes: Light-based artwork is sought that is noticed from a distance and identifies the site of the Public Safety Building and Fire Station as one of safety, refuge, and care.

Bessie Smith and Blue Goose Hollow Artistic Marker RFQ

Chattanooga, TN

Summary: The Bessie Tribute Public Art Committee seeks artistic qualifications from Black artists to design, fabricate and install a sculptural marker and tribute to Bessie Smith at the Blue Goose Hollow trailhead in Chattanooga, TN.The Committee would like to recognize and celebrate Black history in Chattanooga by highlighting American Blues Singer and famed Chattanoogan, Bessie Smith. The committee also seeks to commemorate Bessie’s life in historic Blue Goose Hollow, a neighborhood once home to over 1,400 people and erased with the demolition of over 1,100 buildings during urban renewal.

Budget: $42,000 (Proposal Honorarium: $1,000, Artistic Marker Budget: $42,000)

Eligibility Requirements: The Bessie Tribute Public Art Committee seeks qualifications from​ Black artists. ​This is a national competition open to professional artists and teams; ​all members of the team must be over 18 years old, practicing professionals.

South Burnaby Ice Arena Public Art Project

Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada

Summary: This Request for Expression of Interest (“RFEOI”) provides an exciting opportunity for a new work of public art for the City of Burnaby (“City”). The City seeks expressions of interest from qualified respondents.

The successful artist, artist collective, artist team, or party selected, otherwise known as the (“Artist”), will be engaged to create their proposed concept and be expected to collaborate throughout the process of delivering the public art project for the South Burnaby Ice Arena 7789 at 18th Street, Burnaby, BC.

Budget: $300,000

2020-21 Spring Series of Outdoor Sculpture Exhibits

Summary: The Midwest Sculpture Initiative is proud to be organizing four outdoor sculpture exhibits for the 2020-21 Fall Series.

1) 3rd Annual City of Mount Clemen, MI Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition
2) 3rd Annual Sandusky OH Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition
3) 2nd Annual Moross Greenway Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition (Detroit MI)
6th Annual Port Huron OH Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition

Rialto Theater Pass-Through Artwork

Loveland, CO

Summary: The City of Loveland Art in Public Places is accepting Requests for Qualifications for distinctive artwork for the Rialto Theater alleyway entrance into the pass-through hallways leading from Backstage Alley to Fourth Street in downtown Loveland’s Creative District. Creative wayfinding is desired to assist passersby in identifying the pass-through and navigating these hallways.

Budget: A maximum of $18,000 has been allocated for the project to include design, fabrication, implementation, insurance, contingency and incidental costs.

Eligibility Requirements: This project is open to any professional Colorado artist (or artist team) with demonstrated experience in public installations.

Special Notes: The Commission is requesting qualifications only.  From this RFQ, up to three finalists may be selected to present design concepts for this project.  Finalists will be paid an honorarium to develop and present their artwork design concepts.  Please do not submit proposals as those proposals will be removed from the jury process.

Pueblo Community College – San Juan Building

Pueblo, CO

Summary: Qualifications are requested from artists interested in creating a site-specific public artwork for the exterior of the San Juan Building at Pueblo Community College in Pueblo, Colorado.

Budget: $8,000

Special Notes: Semi-finalists will receive $750 as an honorarium for the creation of a design proposal.

Something New III

Bainbridge Island, WA

Summary: Arts and Humanities Bainbridge (AHB), Public Art Committee (PAC) and the City of Bainbridge Island (COBI) invite all local and Washington State artists to submit their artwork for Something New Phase III. Three sculptures will be selected as part of the Something New III rotating art exhibition for 2020.

Budget: Each selected artist will receive a $1,000 honorarium with the opportunity to be recognized for a $1,000 People’s Choice Award.

Eligibility Requirements: This call is open to Washington State artists

Special Notes: A dynamic public art experience as well as an ongoing opportunity for sculptors to exhibit their work. The exhibit places sculptures in three outdoor locations in downtown Winslow on Beautiful Bainbridge Island.

Selected works remain on display for 9 months after which they are removed to make room for the next collection, offering Bainbridge Islanders and visitors “Something New” every year.

In addition to the three new pieces to be temporarily exhibited as part of the Something New exhibit, Bainbridge Island has a Public Art Collection consisting of 24 works, the majority of which are also located in downtown Winslow.
