Oerman-RocheTrailhead Public Art
Superior, Colorado
Summary: This project offers two possible opportunities and both application processes are open simultaneously: 1) Direct purchase of existing and available sculpture (Call for Entry), and 2) Commission of a site-specific design (Request for Qualifications).
The vision of the Oerman-Roche Trailhead project is to feature a site-specific design commission or an existing sculpture available for purchase. The selected design will be welcoming and draw people to experience its peaceful, meditative qualities before entering into the trail area. The design can be comprised of a number of natural materials from stone, wood, glass and/or metal to recycled materials. The placement of the design feature at the site will highlight and showcase the view looking west toward the mountain range by means of a curved, circular or post and lintel design, and it will be situated in the western portion of the newly constructed trailhead and parking lot.
The site-specific design commission or purchased sculpture may incorporate unique, creative and historic design elements, and embody the Town motto: “The Gateway to Boulder Valley”. Further, this piece will provide a space that is educational, accessible and useful for all age groups and abilities. Note: The Historical Commission has already prepared signage for the trailhead and is in favor of incorporating their designs into this project, which include a photograph of roughly the same view, circa 1930.
