With a variety of locations and types of calls, there is bound to be something that gets your creative juices flowing. Some are restricted to regional artists, but most are national (US) and international opportunities for sculptors.

Park Play Areas

Tempe, Arizona

Summary: The City of Tempe invites artists to submit qualifications to create designs that would be used in the play area rubberized surfaces of upcoming Tempe Park Playground renovation projects. The selected artist(s) will work with the City Public Art Program and Parks Services Section to create images that can be translated into rubber surfaces used in playgrounds. The selected artist(s) will be expected to provide consultation services with staff throughout the project as needed

Eligibility Requirements: This Call to Artists is open to a professional artist or artist team residing and eligible to work the United States.  Artists must demonstrate experience in design, communication, and have an understanding of color, pattern, and line work as it relates to scale

Special Notes: The City wishes to have artist designed images that can be placed into the rubberized surface play areas. All artwork will be provided to the city in a vector based digital drawing format for reproduction purposes

Masterwork Foundation Community Art Grant

Summary: 6/12/19

Budget: Each year, Masterwork Foundation issues a number of community grants to organizations or individuals striving for excellence in the arts.

This year, the Masterwork Foundation Board has refined the criteria. For the 2019-2020 community grant season, we’ll be giving out three grants. One grant will be given at the $1,000 level. Two additional grants will be given at the $500 level.

Wyoming Arts Council Visual Arts Fellowships

Cheyenne, Wyoming

Summary: The Wyoming Arts Council’s Visual Arts Fellowships are awards of merit, based on the artist’s portfolio, honoring the work of Wyoming visual artists whose work reflects serious and exceptional aesthetic investigation. Artists working in any media, including film and video, may apply. Applications are juried by noted artists, curators, and others in the visual arts from outside the state. Up to three fellowships may be given each year, and jurors may also select honorable mentions.

University of Illinois Carle Illinois College of Medicine Renovation

Urbana-Champaign, Illinois

Summary: The Art in Architecture (AIA) Program of the University of Illinois Facilities & Services is pleased to announce a Request for Direct Purchase of Artwork (RDPA). Professional artists are invited to submit images of available work to be considered for the permanent original public art at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). This call seeks artwork for the Medical Sciences Building Carle Illinois College of Medicine Renovation in Urbana, Illinois. The project is currently set to start construction in spring of 2019 and is scheduled to complete construction in mid-summer of 2020.

Budget: $48,000

Museum of Exploration and Innovation 2020

Santa Barbara, California

Summary: MOXI has two spaces dedicated to rotating 3-month interactive media art installations, and has opened the application process for artist and art collectives to propose works for these spaces for 2020. Artworks should be interactive and designed to be highly robust to accommodate active children and family visitors.

Budget: Total budget of a large-scale interactive artwork can be up to $10,000.

At the close of this call, up to 8 applications will be chosen and applicants will be paid $200 each to develop more detailed exhibition proposals and interview with the MOXI staff.

Northwestern State University Public Art Commission

Natchitoches, Louisiana

Summary: The Louisiana Percent for Art Program invites professional artists or artist teams to submit qualifications to design, implement, and install one site-specific sculpture at a public gathering space between Caspari Hall and the Student Services buildings at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA. Full proposals are not required at this time; please submit only those materials described in the submission requirements section.

Summary: The City of Austin Art in Public Places (AIPP) program of the Cultural Arts Division, Economic Development Department seeks to commission a durable, permanent exterior public artwork that creates a sense of identity and a sense of positivity through color, imagery and engagement with the nearby communities.

Mira Mesa Community Park Public Art Project

San Diego, California

Summary: The City of San Diego is seeking applications from interested qualified artists to provide public art services for the Mira Mesa Community Park Public Art Project. An artist or artist team is sought to design, fabricate and transport permanent, site-specific artwork and consult during installation of artwork at the site by the City.

Fire Station #6 Art

Greeley, Colorado

Summary: One artist will be selected to work with the Fire Station #6 Project Design Team to develop specific artistic concepts for the site and submit a detailed final proposal with an itemized budget and a timeline by September 10, 2019.

The Design Team is looking for artwork that is representational and may include one or a series of outdoor sculptural works or indoor works of art; the design must communicate the traditional values and acknowledge the civic contributions of the Greeley Fire Department and/or first responders to the City of Greeley. Strong values from the firefighters who become ‘family’ with those they serve with include Dedication, Excellence, Honor, Integrity, Respect, and Safety. A Colorado theme may also be interwoven into the design.

Public Art RFQ | University of Nebraska

Kearney, Nebraska

Summary: This is a public art RFQ for artists who can provide qualifications in monumental scale sculptural/architectural work for a university setting in central Nebraska.

The artwork will serve a focal point for a diverse community and as a backdrop to many activities.

The committee envisions a significant, timeless and distinctive artwork that acts as a beacon to draw people in and invite them to stay and interact. The committee would like to consider artists who can design a large-scale structure vertically, and potentially work with light and color options. The artist will be responsible for designing the footing or pedestal for the artwork within the greenspace. Artwork must be suitable for long-term outdoor display, including durability and minimal routine maintenance.

Santa Monica Cultural Affairs Pre-Qualified Artist Roster

Santa Monica, California

Summary: Santa Monica Cultural Affairs invites artist/teams to submit qualifications for a prequalified artist roster. The artist roster is a curated shortlist that will be adjudicated quarterly and will serve as a resource for public art selection panels, City departments outside of Cultural Affairs, external organizations, and private entities.

The roster may be used either in combination with an open call or invitational or as the sole resource for identifying appropriate artists/teams for a project. All entities using the Cultural Affairs’ prequalified roster will be strongly encouraged to budget artists’ fees when planning potential projects.

Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum

Summary: The Committee does not wish to be limited strictly to Lincoln iconography and would like to explore themes that resonate throughout the study of Lincoln’s life including: freedom, liberty, humility, honesty, and ambition.

The addition of artwork to this corner will enliven and activate the exterior of the building. It will also serve as a wayfinding aid for travelers and a welcome to visitors and Springfield residents approaching the downtown area from the east.

Summary: Downtown Durham, Inc. (DDI) hosts intrepid and thought-provoking projects that push the envelope. The Public Space Project is an activation project focused on retaining and supporting the creative and artistic cultures of Durham and upholding public spaces of convergence.

Fire Response: Round Two

Santa Rosa, California

Summary: This opportunity is for artists, or artist teams to create and install temporary art installations addressing the 2017 Northern California Wildfires. In proximity to the two-year anniversary of the wildfires, this funding is to support artists to produce and present community-based projects in response to the fires that activate public spaces. Projects must be temporary installations that are in public places or within public view for as little as one day or up to 3 months. Summary: The VIA Arts Prize is the UK’s only Ibero-American themed visual arts competition, inviting artists to submit original works inspired by Latin American, Spanish and Portuguese arts and cultures.

Budget: Cash prizes, provided by Itaú, are awarded to the Jury’s first (£5000) and second (£2000) choices.
