9 More Call for Artists for March 2020

9 Call for artists with deadlines of March 16-March 20. These opportunities for sculptors include art-on-loan programs as well as commissions with budgets up to $540,000 across the US.

South County Recycling + Transfer Station

Algona, Washington

Summary: 4Culture and King County’s Solid Waste Division (SWD) seek an artist or artist-led team to create site-specific or site-integrated artwork for the new South County Recycling & Transfer Station (SCRTS)

Budget: $500,000 OR $540,000

Eligibility Requirements: open to professional artists and artist-led teams residing in the Washington, Oregon or British Columbia. Artists whose work is focused on sustainability and the environment, reuse of materials, and/or naturally-sourced materials are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants with cultural connections to The Muckleshoot Tribe of Indians and those who identify as Indigenous or underrepresented as well as artists who have an interest or history in education or mentorship of emerging artists are also strongly encouraged to apply.

Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center Expansion

Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Summary: The Broward Cultural Division’s Public Art & Design Program is seeking to commission one artist or artist team (Artist), to create a fully integrated artwork that enhances the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center expansion and exterior plaza located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This artistic intervention shall create a sense of place for Convention Center visitors.

Budget: $650,000

Eligibility Requirements: This Call to Artists is open to professional artists, eighteen years of age or older; residing in the United States who have not been previously selected for a County project in the past 10 years and who have completed a minimum of five (5) public art projects with a budget of $25,000 or more and preferably have demonstrated experience completing and coordinating exterior art installations with construction project managers, and related contractors, engineers and architects. Artist shall review and accept the terms of the Broward County Commissioned Artwork Agreement before applying to the Call to Artists.

Special Notes: All finalists are required to attend an information meeting prior to submitting a design proposal for this project.

Oklahoma Museum of Popular Culture (OKPOP)

Tulsa, Oklahoma

Summary: The new OKPOP museum will be built and managed by the Oklahoma Historical Society and located in the Tulsa Arts District. The museum will be dedicated to the incredible history and creativity of Oklahoma’s people and the influence of those artists on popular culture around the world. The underlying theme of the museum will be “Crossroads of Creativity” and stories will include music, movies, radio, television, pop art, literature, theater, comics, humor, and Route 66.

Budget: $250,000

Special Notes: OKPOP offers a significant opportunity for dynamic and visually impactful artwork. The area of interest for the public art is the interior lobby entrance space.

Edmonds Civic Park Call-to-Artists/Request for Qualifications

Edmonds, Washington

Summary: The City of Edmonds Arts Commission is seeking an artist or artist-led team to create a commission for a prominent location at Civic Park, a newly designed downtown park and civic destination for all ages, which will undergo development in 2020 – 2021.

Budget: $90,000

Special Notes: If selected as a finalist, applicants are required to be available in person on April 22 and 23 for site orientation and interview at a public meeting.

Flat Rock Dam – Artist-Designed Fence

Summary: Public Art Opportunity to create an artist-designed fence along the soon to be constructed Flat Rock Dam in Philadelphia

Ernest N. Morial Convention Center

New Orleans, LA

Summary: The New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center and The Arts Council New Orleans, cordially invite artists, artists teams, and designs teams to submit qualifications for a permanent public art installation to be commissioned for the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center pedestrian park project. The commission, one of several key design elements of the park, will activate the public space at critical nodes along Convention Center Boulevard.

Budget: A total of $425,000 will be awarded among a minimum of three commissions.

Eligibility Requirements: This call is open to experienced artists, artists teams, and design teams. To qualify, applicants must:

• Be 18 years of age or older.
• Have at least 5 years of experience as a professional artist.
• Have experience with projects of the proposed scale or resources available for completing the project.
• Carry personal liability insurance for the duration of the project until installation is complete and accepted.
• Meet all contractual obligations and adhere to the timeline provided.
• If selected, be prepared to present their concept to a selection committee.

Special Notes: This Call for Artists is a request for qualifications only. A short-list of artists will be invited from this Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to participate in a funded Request for Proposals (RFP) round. The final commissions will be selected and awarded from the proposing artists.

2020-21 Downtown Sculpture Gallery

Auburn, WA

Summary: The City of Auburn invites sculptors to submit applications for Auburn’s Downtown Sculpture Gallery. The works selected for this public art exhibition will be on loan to the City for a period of twelve months (12) and can be available for sale during that time.

Budget: Each selected artist will receive a $1,000 stipend. At the conclusion of the exhibition a sculpture from the exhibition may be purchased for inclusion in the City of Auburn’s permanent collection. The purchase budget is $10,000.

Deadline: March 19, 2020 at 10:59 p.m. Pacific Time

Eligibility Requirements: Artist are required to be living or working in the Pacific Northwest (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California and Montana) and deliver their artwork in person to Auburn, Washington.

Special Notes: The selected sculpture will be on view for 12 months from September 2020 – September 2021.

2020-2022 Sculpture Walk

Rockford, IL

Summary: The mission of the Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau Charitable Foundation Arts Fund is to encourage and enhance cultural life and public art in the Rockford region through facilitation, recognition, and financial support.

The Arts Fund, an initiative of Forest City Beautiful, is a sculpture walk consisting of a two-year installation of sculptors’ work for which each artist will receive an honorarium of $2,000. The RACVB Charitable Foundation Arts Fund is soliciting artists for the 2020-2022 Sculpture Biennial

Budget: Artists will receive a $2,000 honorarium per piece for the two-year period.

Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado

Grand Junction, Colorado

Summary: Qualifications are requested from artists interested in creating an exterior public artwork for the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado in Grand Junction, Colorado.

The Art Selection Committee is looking for an artwork that creates a peaceful and contemplative environment for visitors to the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, which they feel can best be achieved by incorporating the sounds of an electronic carillon.

Budget: $14,000
