April 2022 Call for Artists part 1

Announcing 22 call for artists with deadlines April 1-9, 2022. Whether you are looking for an exhibition, an art on loan program, or an opportunity for a sculpture commission, be sure to read through and find the right call for you.

2022-2023 Liberty MO Downtown Sculpture Walk
Liberty, Missouri
Summary: Liberty’s Public Art Sculpture Program is a way to expand a permanent collection of public art by featuring additional pieces that would be on display for a limited period of time. Additional locations for sculptures will be added each year. All work entered must be freestanding and resilient to variant temperatures and outdoor elements as it will be displayed outdoors for long-term public display. Nine sculptures will be selected and will be on display September 2022 – September 2023 in Downtown Liberty, MO.
Budget: A $2000 honorarium will be paid to artists selected.

Eligibility Requirements: The Liberty Public Art Sculpture Program is open to all artists regardless of location and who are at least 18 years of age. All entries must be original work and of safe design and construction.
Special Notes: The City of Liberty has the option to purchase at least one piece of art from the art pieces on display each cycle, which would become a part of the City’s permanent art collection. The purchase price may be up to $10,000.

Big Art Hood River Outdoor Sculpture Gallery
Hood River, Oregon
Summary: In its sixth exhibit, the Art of Community BIG ART Walking Tour consists of up to 15 Sculptures on loan from artists around the country. Artists are asked to submit applications for placement of their sculptures around the downtown Hood River area for a period of about two (2) years.
Budget: The artists selected will be paid a stipend of $500 after receipt of the artwork and an additional $500 at time of pick up.

Eligibility Requirements: The artists selected will be paid a stipend of $500 after receipt of the artwork and an additional $500 at time of pick up.
Special Notes: The minimum size of artwork is suggested to be 48 inches tall or larger and must be designed and fabricated for long-term outdoor durability and ease of maintenance, including strong wind. Sculptures taller than 11 feet will need to have a certified engineer stamp of approval to be considered for installation in a public setting. We have some large spaces so works that require more than one footing or multiple works such as triptychs will also be considered. We look forward to artistic interpretation and creativity in this call.

Calling the Catamount – Sculpting a New Mascot
Western Carolina University, North Carolina
Summary: The WCU Fine Art Museum at Bardo Arts Center is seeking artist’s qualifications, portfolios, and proposals in order to commission a new sculpture of the Catamount, a fierce and elusive mountain cat adopted by Western Carolina University as its mascot in 1932. This 8 – 10 foot sculpture will replace our current 6’ Catamount at the front and center of WCU’s well manicured campus, greeting visitors and attendees as they arrive on site; cementing the first impression many prospective students have of the school.

Artsites 2022
Monument, Colorado
Summary: TriLakes Views (TLV) is a local nonprofit public arts organization located in Monument, Colorado. For over 12 years, TLV has organized the annual ArtSites consisting of both permanent and rotating outdoor public art, located on pedestals throughout the Monument area. The call for artists is for 10 rotating pieces which will be displayed for one year.
Budget: Selected artists will be invited to an installation celebration and will be awarded a $500 stipend for each selected piece.

Special Notes: New for 2022 will be a partnership with Otocast; a phone app that can be downloaded at no cost. Otocast is preparing an audio driving and walking tour of the outdoor public art in the TriLakes area. QR codes will bring up individual pieces with audio descriptions recorded by the artists.

Wadsworth Boulevard Improvement
Wheat Ridge, Colorado
Summary: Qualifications are requested from qualified artists and/or artist teams interested in creating site-specific public artworks(s) for their Wadsworth Improvements/Widening project, located in city of Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
Budget: $475,000 (for multiple sites along roadway)

Pence Gallery Emerging Artist Award
Davis, California
Summary: The Pence Gallery announces that its Emerging Artist Award 2022 is now open for application. This award supports the creation of new work by emerging artists in California and the opportunity to share that work through an exhibit and artist talk. Artists must use the award to further their work in a significant direction. Artists may work in any medium, except for video or sound art. Emerging’ is defined as an artist who is early in their art career, and some experience exhibiting in group shows, but not an extensive solo exhibit history. The qualifications for this award are that the artist’s submitted work is of high caliber, original, and completed within the past five years. The art submitted should not have been on view at the Pence before. Artists must be dedicated to the practice of making and exhibiting art, and need financial support.

Art on the River “Crossing Bridges” Sculpture Exhibition
Dubuque, Iowa
Summary: The City of Dubuque (Iowa) is now soliciting sculpture proposals for consideration for the 2022-23 Art on the River public art sculpture exhibit, to be held along the Mississippi Riverwalk in the Port of Dubuque from August 2022 through July 2023. The theme for the 2022-23 exhibit is “Crossing Bridges”, encouraging works that speak to physical and metaphorical bridges and how they serve to connect us across divides, help us overcome barriers, and foster economic growth and community prosperity.
Budget: Selected artists receive a $1,800 stipend for each work included in the exhibition plus up to $200 in travel support. Additional cash prizes of $1,000 for Best in Show and $200 for People’s Choice are also available.

Special Notes: Ten sculptural works will be selected for the exhibition, to be displayed at the Port of Dubuque from August 2022 to July 2023. Artists may submit multiple works for consideration; a separate application must be completed for each artwork.

Northeast Levy Regional Senior Center
Chicago, Illinois
Summary: The Northeast Levy Regional Senior Center Public Art Menu Project invites professional artists, artist teams and arts organizations living in Chicago with a demonstrated history of completing permanent, large-scale, public art projects to submit their qualifications to develop an outdoor mural that will activate and enhance the north façade of the Levy Center. Senior artists are encouraged to apply. Community members are encouraged to share this opportunity with artists they hope will apply.

Summary: Group Creative Services is seeking an interdisciplinary collective to develop a concept covering a range of different activations within a public park. Activations might include any or all of the following: sculptures, play areas, public art as wayfinding elements, integrated gathering spaces, interpretive signage, and donor recognition.

2022 Sculpture Exhibition
Clear Lake, Iowa
Summary: The Clear Lake Arts Center on behalf of its members invites you to submit an application to participate in the annual exhibition in the Sukup Lakeside Courtyard. The Courtyard will place 7 sculptural art pieces for temporary display between May 20th and October 20th, 2022. Sculptures will be installed within two weeks prior to the exhibition and uninstalled within two weeks after the exhibition.
Budget: Selected artists will receive a $800 stipend for the loan of their artwork payable after installation is completed and inspected by the Clear Lake Art Center staff to assess stability.

GVAHC Annual Art Scholarships 2022
Greenwood Village, Colorado
Summary: The Greenwood Village Arts and Humanities Council is pleased to announce its annual Art Scholarships.

Eligibility Requirements: Students must be a graduating senior from an Arapahoe County high school or a graduating senior who is a resident of Greenwood Village. Special Notes: If you are chosen as a finalist, you may be required to bring your original pieces to the Curtis Center for the Arts, 2349 East Orchard Road, Greenwood Village for the jurors to view. We will be in possession of your work for approximately one week in March 2022.

Public Artist Roster (Multi-Year, Multi-Project)
San Jose, California
Summary: The City of San Jose (CA) is seeking experienced artists, or artist teams (“Artists”), to submit Statements of Qualifications for a Pre-Qualified Public Artist Roster (“Roster”). The purpose of the Roster is to serve as a resource for future public art selection panels, streamlining the artist selection process for a range of upcoming public art projects, primarily those associated with the construction of new civic buildings and facilities, parks, environmental services, transportation, and streetscape improvement projects throughout San José. Some projects may also offer opportunities for Artists to work as part of a design team along with the project architect/designer. The Roster may be used either in combination with an open call or invitational or as the sole resource for identifying appropriate artists/teams for a project.
Artists who are chosen for inclusion in the Roster will be eligible to be considered for future public art projects in San José. Inclusion in the final Roster will be for a period of five years. The Roster will include, but is not limited to, site responsive visual artists who specialize in the following categories:
- Architecturally integrated: work designed as part of civic infrastructure. (e.g. terrazzo, tile, glass, light, furniture, landscaping, etc.), including design team and master planning collaborations
- Environmental: considering nature, natural phenomena, eco-systems, and environmental issues, social and political issues relating to the natural and urban environment.
- Sculpture: bas-relief; 3-D, mechanical, and kinetic work.
Budget: $15,000 – $320,000 Project budgets will vary on a case-by-case basis depending on base project opportunities.

2022-23 Downtown Sculpture Gallery
Auburn, Washington
Summary: The City of Auburn invites sculptors to submit applications for Auburn’s Downtown Sculpture Gallery. The works selected for this public art exhibition will be on loan to the City for a period of twelve months (12) and can be available for sale during that time.

Route 66 Visitor Center

Summary: The Bernalillo County Arts Board solicits a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for artists and artists’ teams for a site-specific outdoor public art project that will be installed at the new Route 66 Visitor Center located at “Nine Mile Hill,” near Atrisco Vista and I-40 in Albuquerque.

Art On Fourth 2022
Ketchum, Idaho
Summary: the city of Ketchum, Idaho, invites experienced artists to apply for Ketchum’s summer sculpture exhibition, “Art on Fourth.” Original three-dimensional artwork selected by a blind jury will be displayed in outdoor public spaces along Ketchum’s Fourth Street Heritage Corridor from June through October 2022.

Ceramic Artist in Residency at Clay Art Center
Port Chester, New York
Summary: Held annually in September, the residency at Clay Art Center in Port Chester, New York, offers one emerging artist a year-long stay to develop their craft.
Budget: The program includes a private studio, free firing, a $500 monthly stipend, paid teaching opportunities, and an exhibition.

PHASE V: PUBLIC ART IN THE WOODLANDS ARTS DISTRICT

Summary: Up to three (3) semi-finalists will be chosen for each location in a preliminary selection process. One (1) finalist for each location will be chosen to construct an art bench or art bike rack.
Budget: Each of the ART BENCH finalists will receive $8,000 for bench selected and installed ($4,000 upon execution of Artist Agreement and the final $4,000 when bench is delivered and accepted).
Each of the ART BIKE RACK finalists will receive $4,000 for the bike rack selected and installed ($2,000 upon execution of Artist Agreement and the final $2,000 when the bike rack is delivered and accepted).

2022 Native American Heritage Project
Thornton, Colorado
Summary: The city of Thornton, in collaboration with the Thornton Arts, Sciences and Humanities Council (TASHCO) and Adams County, is seeking to commission original public art. This project will commission 3D, large-scale, site-specific work that will have a strong visual impact and push Thornton into a contemporary setting.
The project will incorporate Indigenous intervention into the practice of public art by honoring the location’s historic significance and the current cultural contributions made by Indigenous peoples.
Budget: $80,000
