Call for Artists Bloom in June: Update!

5/21/23 Update: 2 calls that were previously posted in May have had their deadlines extended. We have added them here, now there are 14 different opportunities for sculptors in the beginning of June.
Announcing 12 call for artists with deadlines June1-10, 2023. Some of these are opportunities for more than one sculptor giving us even more opportunities this month. Finding the right call for your skills and style isn’t easy, but we hope to help. Check out what we’ve found and apply now for your best opportunity.

University of Illinois Art in Architecture at Everitt Laboratory
Urbana-Champaign, Illinois
Summary: The College of Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has recently renovated 124,256 gross square feet of Everitt Laboratory.
The committee is looking for an interior piece or pieces to compliment the atrium/student lounge space (note: this is for 2d piece(s) of art.
The committee is also looking for an exterior sculptural piece to complement both the building and its uses with the theme: Artwork relating to science and bioengineering
Budget: The total budget for artwork shall not exceed $195,000. No single purchase/commission shall exceed $99,999.

Eligibility Requirements: This CFA solicitation for public art is open to all professional artists, artisans, or artist-led teams currently residing and legally permitted to work in the United States.
Special Notes: Choice of medium for the project is broad but should be in material suitable for a long life for the interior and exterior environment in which it will be placed. The artist should consider works that have an impact from both a close-up range and from a distance.
Norman Forward 1% For Art: Flood Street Roundabout
Norman, Oklahoma
Summary: seeking an artist (or team of artists) to create a significant work of art for a new roundabout and entrance to downtown Norman, Oklahoma. The site is approximately 50 feet in diameter. The Selection Panel has determined that the most effective artwork will be an iconic three-dimensional sculpture that can be experienced in 360 degrees visibility and centrally located in the roundabout. A concrete pad and electrical are included in the design to accommodate the artwork.
The artwork should create a sense of arrival into Norman and will be the first impression for visitors to the community, therefore could be iconic of Norman. Alternatively, the artwork could be an attraction and not necessarily allude to the identity of the place.
Budget: $175,000

TUL Suspended Artwork
Tulsa, Oklahoma
Summary: The Mission of the Airport Art and Culture Program is to enhance the aesthetic experience of visitors to Tulsa International Airport. The Airport has identified two different locations at the airport for suspended artwork. The artist will have the opportunity to choose which location out of the two available that they would like to utilize for their suspended artwork installation.
Artwork should visually enhance the aesthetic experiences of visitors to the airport, but is not limited to only aviation themed pieces.
Artwork can not be highly reflective, as security cameras will need to be functioning in the areas.
Budget: $250,000

Eligibility Requirements: The project is open to all professional artists, designers, or firms, age 18 and over, regardless of residence, race, color, religion, national origin, gender, military status, sexual orientation, marital status, or physical or mental ability. Artist teams are eligible to apply, including teams of artists from multiple disciplines. Teams must include at least one visual artist.
Special Notes: The airport will select up to five (5) applicants and provide a $2,000 stipend for travel to Tulsa, OK to present their final concept to the Selection Committee. The stipend is to be used for travel expenses, presentation materials, and concept production.

Wylie Municipal Walking Trails-History of the Blackland Prairie
Texas Blackland Prairie
Summary: The walking trails are located in a portion of the Texas Blackland Prairie region. The Blackland Prairie region extends from Sherman to New Braunfels, Texas.The Municipal Walking Trails are expansive and currently encompass tree miles. There are plans to extend the trails into additional areas and add a dog park and splash park for children. Placement of the proposed entry piece will be behind City Hall.
Works should include creativity, resilience, hope and remembrance through sculptures of the Native American Tribes (specifically the Caddo tribes) that hunted the area; This will be a multi-year project with sculptures scattered throughout the trails.
Budget: $40,000.00 each

Utah Tech General Classroom – Utah Public Art
St. George, Utah
Summary: Professional artist and artist teams are invited to submit letters of interest and qualifications for the creation of site-specific artwork(s) at the Utah Tech University General Classroom Building in St. George, Utah.
The Art Selection Committee is looking forward to working with an artist who understands the value of Utah Tech’s mission and the human-centered nature of the new building. Selected artwork should be engaging, inclusive, and welcoming. The Committee has identified several areas that may be suitable for an artist’s interpretation, but will remain open to other areas as envisioned by the finalist artists. Please review the building site plans and renderings and consider the unique possibilities afforded by the building’s design.
Budget: $166,000

Public Art Planning Consultant for Brewer Community Center
Wichita, Kansas
Summary: Greteman Group, on behalf of SFS Architecture and their client, the City of Wichita, Kansas, is requesting responses from qualified firms or individuals to provide consulting services for the planning and selection of public art in coordination with the expansion and renovation of the Carl G. Brewer Community Center located within McAdams Park at 1329 E. 16th St., Wichita, KS.
The intent of this RFQ is to initiate the procurement of public art for the project by selecting a Public Art Planning Consultant who will be responsible for coordinating with the design team and selection panel to determine appropriate locations and scope of public art within the project and conducting a Call for Artists to provide the artwork.
Budget: $180,000 (Public Art Planning Consultant budget is $20,000, as part of $180,000 total budget.)

Six Outdoor Sculptures. Purchases & Commissions–One Application
Boynton Beach, Florida
Summary: BoyntonArts seek multiple sculptors to create outdoor works for five property developers and one hospital in Boynton Beach, Florida. With one application, each artist will be presented to all developers and the hospital over the next two years. Four sculptures will join the 40 ft tall “Cavalcade” by Albert Paley on the Avenue of the Arts (Ocean Ave) as a cultural destination in South Florida.
Some of the developers have specific themes or other attributes required of the artwork. The Pierce by Affiliated Development seeks an engaging, educational sculpture that celebrates Boynton’s connection to the natural environment of the Atlantic Ocean with elements such as coral reef, fish, sea mammals, coral, shell fish, sand, waves, fishing, fishing boats, diving, surfing, etc. Bethesda Hospital wishes the artist to integrate moving water with the sculpture.
Budget: $1,400,000 total, $75K-$300K per sculpture

Special Notes: Artists can present past work for a new commission and propose the sale of existing work. Existing sculptures (or new commissions) must be resistant to the hurricane force winds, the sun’s ultraviolent light and the salt air.

Art Nine Disc Golf Course Public Art Project
Shawnee, Kansas
Summary: The Public Art Program is interested in commissioning artists to create site-specific, permanent sculptures at the Art Nine disc golf course. It is the goal of this project to hire three artists/artist teams to each create a series of three art pieces. With nine total sculptures, placement will occur in proximity to each of the nine tees.
Budget: $126,000 (total)

Special Notes: The Art Nine Art Selection Committee (ASC) will review artist qualifications and select up to 6 finalists. Finalists will develop a site-specific concept proposal that includes a series of 3 sculptures at 3 separate tee locations. The Art Selection Committee will recommend 3 final artist(s)/designs to the Public Art Committee for the project.

Summary: Texas State University System seeks to commission an artist or artist team to design artwork for the Texas State University Hilltop Residence Hall. Artwork will draw inspiration from student life on campus or the larger San Marcos community.
