Call for Artists Feb 1-14, 2021

These 15 call for artists with deadlines between Feb 1-Feb 14, 2021 provide a wide variety of opportunities for sculptors across the US. There are numerous large commissions, art on loan programs, grants and at least one call is for multiple positions. All told, many artists will get nice gigs this month–will you be one of them?

Law Enforcement Memorial v.2

Dayton, Ohio

Summary: The Memorial Association’s main goal is to build a permanent outdoor memorial in honor of this Ohio county’s fallen officers––whose ultimate sacrifice helped keep their communities safe. The Montgomery County Law Enforcement Memorial Association represents 33 law enforcement agencies in southwest Ohio, including Dayton––and is seeking design proposals for a permanent outdoor memorial in honor of this county’s fallen officers.

Budget: $150,000

Deadline: 2/1/21 (Due to the ongoing disruptions resulting from COVID-19, the Law Enforcement Memorial project Submission Deadline has been extended to 02/01/21)

Eligibility Requirements: The competition is open to professional artists living in the Continental U.S. (excluding Alaska and Hawaii).

Special Notes: Submissions will be judged by the Memorial Association’s Juried Arts Committee, which will select three semi-finalists who will each be awarded a $1,500 stipend, and then the winner. That artist will be awarded a $150,000 commission to finalize, fabricate, transport, and install the memorial. The Association will also provide up to $50,000 for landscaping and up to $25,000 for site preparation.

ArtAround Roswell Sculpture Tour 2021

Roswell, Georgia

Summary: Roswell Arts Fund and the City of Roswell, Georgia invites artists to submit proposals of existing and new outdoor art works for consideration for ArtAround Roswell 2021, a Sculpture Tour; a temporary, monumental art installation to be installed at various outdoor sites in the City of Roswell, Georgia. Proposals selected through this call will be considered for exhibition during an 11-month tour from May 2021 – March 2022.

Budget: Artists will receive a $2500 stipend for the loan of their work,

Detroit-Sloane Corridor

Lakewood, Ohio

Summary: Since 2016, the city has been investing in public-private art projects to increase its value as a place that attracts and retains residents, entrepreneurs, employees, and entertainment offerings. Given the positive community response to the city’s ongoing public art initiative, the city is thrilled to release this Call for Artists for multiple permanent public art projects as part of the Detroit-Sloane Pedestrian Safety Improvements project.

Budget: $95,000

2021 Art on Parade

Northglenn, Colorado

Summary: Northglenn Arts is conducting an open entry competition to select six sculptures, valued at no more than $32,500 each, to be part of Northglenn’s “Art on Parade” on-loan sculpture program. The selected pieces will be installed for a period of one year at E.B. Rains Jr. Memorial Park surrounding Webster Lake in Northglenn, Colorado.

Artists will receive substantial recognition and opportunity to sell; therefore, all pieces must be for sale. The placement of selected pieces will begin in late May, 2021 and will be on display until May, 2022.

Budget: Each of the six finalists will receive a $750 honorarium to help offset their expenses. In addition, $1,000 will be awarded to the artist who is the recipient of the annual “People’s Choice Award.”

Special Notes: Since the program’s inception in 2001, with funding provided by the Northglenn Arts and Humanities Foundation (NAHF), Northglenn Arts has purchased each of the People’s Choice winning sculptures. Although the purchase of the People’s Choice winner is not guaranteed, it is the goal to purchase permanent art for the City of Northglenn through the program.

Submitted sculptures are to be garden-sized or larger (at least three feet in one dimension) and valued at no more than $32,500. The sculpture must be completed before submission deadline.

Artist Response Program: Direct Grants

Chicago, Illinois

Summary: Through the Artist Response Program DCASE will award 5-10 direct grants from $50,000 – $100,000 to individual artists to implement ambitious projects which address the current moment through a range of creative approaches.

St Charles Sculpture in the Park 16th Annual Exhibit

St Charles, Illinois

Summary: The Sculpture Committee in partnership with the St. Charles Park District and St. Charles Park Foundation are accepting submissions for sculptors to participate in the Sculpture in the Park Exhibit in Mt. St. Mary Park along the picturesque Fox River and at Baker Community Center’s garden plaza, both in downtown St. Charles, Illinois.

Budget: $1,000 honorarium for each accepted sculpture. Additional prizes are available.

St. Joseph Sculpture Walk 2021

23rd Annual Art on the Streets

Colorado Springs, Colorado

Summary: Art on the Streets celebrates the power of art in public places, turning the streets of Downtown Colorado Springs into a yearlong outdoor gallery of sculpture, mural, performance and installation works. More than 300 works have been exhibited Downtown since AOTS began in 1998, and the district is home to more than 50 permanent works, over 30 of which have been purchased through AOTS.

Mann Rivera Renovation Project

Summary: The Office of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy (OACCE) announces a $103,000 Percent for Art opportunity for Mann Rivera Renovation Project. This is a public art opportunity for the exterior perimeter wall of the Mann Rivera Center along Allegheny Avenue and 5th Street. The art could include a mosaic installation, mural, or other sculptural elements.

TEMPO 2021

Austin, Texas

Summary: The City of Austin’s Art in Public Places (AIPP) program of the Cultural Arts Division, Economic Development Department, seeks proposals from practicing visual artists or artist teams to design, fabricate, install and de-install short-term or time-based exterior artworks and murals at City of Austin Public Library Department sites. The intent for the temporary public art program is to promote tourism, cultivate curiosity, spark imagination, engage the community in a meaningful dialogue about public art, foster work by local artists and cultivate exploration of the City of Austin. Artists are encouraged to create artworks that reflect the district in which they select to exhibit and design artworks that can be easily installed and de-installed.

Budget: Budgets for the proposed artworks will range from $3,000 to $10,000.

2021 Historic Sheridan Wyoming Juried Sculpture Exhibit

Sheridan, Wyoming

Summary: Since 2002, the City of Sheridan Public Arts Committee has invited artists from across the country to participate in our On Loan Program. Sculptures will be on display from April 2021 until April 2022. Artists are invited and encouraged to attend the 2021 Celebrate the Arts activities April 2021.

Summary: The City of Kansas City, Missouri One Percent for Art program seeks to commission a professional visual artist, or artist team, to create public art to be placed in The New Single Terminal at KCI airport.

“Experiential” installation for KCI Airport connector between new concourses

Lighting installation for KCI Airport arrivals roadway

Kansas City, Missouri

Summary: These two installations may attach to or be treatments (paint or other media) upon the ceiling structure above the crosswalks. Each of the two crossings is 20 feet wide and 155 feet long (or 3,100 sf ). The installations shall not hang lower than 16 feet above the ground level road to maintain clearance for vehicular traffic. The ceiling structure varies in its height but is 16’ -20’ above the ground level road at its lowest point. The artist may interpret these installations as a pair (diptych) or as duplicate pieces. Miscellaneous signage, lighting and other components of the garage and terminal will need to be factored into the design layout and installation of these pieces. These works span the project boundaries of the garage and the terminal and, as such, will need to be coordinated with both design and construction teams for installation and infrastructure.
