Call for Artists for December! UPDATED

Dec 7 Update: 3 new calls added and an additional call has had its deadline extended. This makes a total of 19 calls for the first half of December

Fresh Air Sculpture 2024

Quenington, Cotswold, UK

Summary: A celebration of contemporary art in a beautiful English garden. Fresh Air Sculpture is a biennial sculpture exhibition held in the expansive organic garden of The Old Rectory in the Cotswold village of Quenington and affords a unique opportunity to see a creative mixture of traditional, modern and cutting-edge sculpture in a stunning outdoor setting.

Fresh Air Sculpture gathers over 130 contemporary pieces of outside sculpture together in this tranquil setting, many of which have been created specifically for the gardens.

Budget: All work is available to buy at the show and commissions are welcome.

Eligibility Requirements: We welcome submissions from international sculptors but it will be the artist’s responsibility to arrange and cover shipping costs and any customs, taxes and duties due.

Art Seen – Outdoor Rotating Art Gallery

Newport, Oregon

Summary: The City of Newport is pleased to invite emerging, mid-career and established artists to submit work to the Public Arts Committee’s program, Art Seen, for a 2 year long program in their rotating outdoor art gallery. Artwork cannot exceed 500 pounds in total weight, and cannot be taller than 10 feet.

During the two-year period, the art would be offered for sale, with the City of Newport
keeping a portion of the sale proceeds to support future of the Public Arts Program. The artist also has the opportunity to replace any sold art with a new piece during the two-year time frame.

Budget: $1,500 (Artists are offered a one-time stipend of $1,500 to provide their work for a maximum of two years.)

AWTF Biogas Flare Artwork Project

Coeur d’Alene, Idaho

Summary: Nestled alongside the Centennial Trail and the Spokane River is the Coeur d’Alene Advance Wastewater Treatment Facility (AWTF). The Wastewater Department is actively seeking creative and fun ways to engage and educate trail users of “what is biogas and what is it used for?” In short, biogas is a byproduct of one of many wastewater treatment processes and is often used for power generation or as a heat source. Excessive biogas is flared or flamed (burned) off. While the flare operates under pressure, the actual flame burns continuously with a flickering effect. Sculpture must permit an unobstructed access to the biogas flare infrastructure.

Budget: $75,000

Eligibility Requirements: This call is open to all artists, designers, or creative individuals or artist teams regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, age, marital status, physical or mental disability.

Special Notes: The Selection Committee will invite up to five (5) finalists to develop and submit proposals of their artwork. The artwork should be scheduled for installation in August of 2024.

2024 New Mexico Arts Artist Residency – Lincoln Historic Site

Lincoln, New Mexico

Summary: Each residency will take place over a six-week period in which the artist resides and works in Lincoln, New Mexico. Artists will have access to and are encouraged to interact with the land, culture, and the extensive local historic archival materials at the sites, visitor center and surrounding area.

Budget: $14,000 stipend

Jean W. Wallace Wetlands Trailhead Sculpture

Hot Springs, Arkansas

Summary: This call is for a permanent artwork which marks the beginning of the Jean W. Wallace Wetlands Trailhead on the Hot Springs Creek Greenway Trail (HSCGT) and which specifically relates to the ecosystem of the Wetlands. Artwork would be installed in and/or around an 8-foot stacked stone conical fountain.

Artwork must be fabricated of durable materials suitable for permanent, outdoor display with the consideration that the public will have the ability to touch the work. Artwork which interacts harmoniously and is inspired by the Wetlands is preferred.

Budget: $15,000-$18,000

Eligibility Requirements: This call is open to artists living in the Mid-America Region of Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas.

Special Notes: The fountain is 8-feet high and conical shaped with a 25-foot in diameter enclosure. The enclosure is a low stone ledge suitable for seating. Landscaping and artwork will be installed within the enclosure surrounding the fountain.

Prospectus #274 NM Tech – Public Art Site Specific Commission Project

Socorro, New Mexico

Summary: The Art in Public Places Program of New Mexico Arts and the Local Selection Committee (LSC) of New Mexico Tech seek to commission an artist/artist team to create and install site-specific artwork for an area of the university’s grassed quad/courtyard. Seeking artwork that will provide shade/seating/tables/possible lighting/possible charging station(s)/accessibility for students/faculty/visitors in specified areas identified directly behind Brown Hall on the NMT campus in Socorro, NM. Artwork should capture and recognize the history, acknowledge the land/culture of the area and the work being accomplished by the university, while providing a safe gathering space for all to enjoy. Statement to consider: “Mining multifaceted histories towards an innovative future.”

Budget: $390,500

Downtown Arts, 2024

Greensboro, North Carolina

Summary: This program provides support for and generates awareness about members of Greensboro’s visual arts community while enhancing the downtown built environment with original works of art. Selected artists will receive compensation and promotion through several City-led initiatives.

Valley Metro CAPEX Light Rail Public Art <DEADLINE EXTENDED

Phoenix, Arizona

Summary: The Capitol Extension project is a 1.4-mile western extension of the existing Valley Metro light rail transit (LRT) line from downtown Phoenix to the Arizona State Capitol. Experienced public artists are invited to apply for the six station platform projects ($300,000). Emerging public artists are invited to apply for the two traction power substation projects ($50,000).  Artists will apply for both projects in this call.

Donner Trail Park Request for Qualifications

Salt Lake City, Utah

Summary: Situated in the Salt Lake Valley at the base of the Wasatch foothills, Donner Trail Park is a 14.27-acre park in the East Bench neighborhood of Salt Lake City. Salt Lake City Public Lands, in collaboration with the Arts Council’s Public Art Program, is pleased to provide an opportunity for artists and artist-led teams based in the United States to submit qualifications for the Donner Trail Park public art project. This opportunity will allow for the integration of an artist or artist-led team’s artwork and concepts into the overall renovations of the park, in collaboration and consultation with the project’s landscape architects.

Budget: $107,500 (Finalists will receive a $2,000 honorarium to prepare and present their proposals. Stipend is inclusive of any travel expenses, hotel, shipping, etc.)

Flying Cloud Commons RFQ

Eden Prairie, Minnesota

Summary: The City of Eden Prairie, in coordination with Oppidan Investment Company, developer of Flying Cloud Commons, is excited to invite artists to submit applications to be considered for a public art project. The art will be located within the public plaza at the southwest corner of Prairie Center Drive and Flying Cloud Drive. The plaza and corresponding art will serve as a gateway to the new mixed-use development, which includes Flagstone Senior Living, Paravel Apartments and Flying Cloud Commons retail shops.

Beam Center Seeks Ambitious Project Proposals for 2024 season for Beam Camp in New Hampshire

Strafford, New Hampshire

Summary: Beam Center seeks proposals for an ambitious public artwork that will be realized by a community of more than 100 young people at Beam Camp in summer 2024.

Every year, Beam Camp solicits proposals for unique and spectacular large-scale projects that serve as the centerpiece for the 29-day session of camp, during which they will be built and brought to life by 100 campers and 20+ staff. Our Project Team works with the winning designers to translate their project designs into the camp context. We pride ourselves on the high level of craftsmanship and skill that our Projects and the work of our staff and campers reflect. Please take some time to familiarize yourself with our past projects.

Budget: For each selected project artists receive a $5,000 award plus Selected projects have approximately $15,000 fabrication budget

2024-2026 Gallery Without Walls Call for Art

Lake Oswego, Oregon

Summary: The Arts Council of Lake Oswego is pleased to invite artist submissions of up to three works of art per artist for outdoor public display in Lake Oswego’s nationally recognized, award-winning outdoor Gallery Without Walls exhibit. In its twenty-first year, this program’s mission is to integrate art into the daily lives of residents and visitors to the community by presenting works from regional, national, and international artists that resonate with people of diverse backgrounds. 

During the exhibition period, works will be available for sale with a 30% gallery fee, if sold, paid to the Arts Council. Sold artworks must remain on display for the contracted exhibition period.

Budget: Selected artists will be awarded an honorarium of $1000; Selected artists are also eligible for an annual People’s Choice purchase award of up to $20,000

Temporary Public Art – Trailhead Project

Santa Clarita, California

Summary: There is no required theme for this opportunity however consideration of response to the landscape and site-specificity is encouraged. Sculpture must fit on the pre-determined concrete pad. The pad measures 96” by 96” with a usable corner-to-corner space of 72” by 72”. A horizontal base could use the maximum length of the base if its width is within the dimensions. Pads are either flush or are a few inches raised from the ground.

Sculptures should be no less than 6’ and no more than 15’ in height excluding the base. Sculptures should weigh no more than 3,000 pounds

Budget: A $5,000 honorarium will be provided for each selected artwork for the 3 year period. An additional $1,500 stipend will be provided to the artist to cover the required three-year insurance costs. An additional $2,000 will be provided to the artist to cover the required engineer.

Eligibility Requirements: Artists 18 years of age or older are invited to submit an individual or collaborative artist application. Artist must have a US mailing address for payment to be mailed to and must fill out a W-9.

Adams County Arena Interior & Exterior Integrated Artwork

Brighton, Colorado

Summary: Adams County, CO seeks an individual artist or artist team to create fully integrated interior and exterior artworks for a new multi-use arena. Opportunities include and are not limited to, interior and exterior: architectural elements, standing or suspended artworks, entryway and window installations, pavement and floor installations, wall-hanging artworks and wall installations, light-based and digital artworks, interactive installations, and static and kinetic artworks.

Budget: $130,000 (The Phase I design budget of $130,000 includes but is not limited to artist fee, meetings, site visits, site surveys, community engagement, design work, material samples, renderings, maquettes, stamped shop drawings, fabrication and installation plans, consultants’ and subcontractors’ fees, insurance conforming to Adams County requirements, travel and transportation, and all other costs associated with design through permitting, the creation of construction documents and final renderings.)

Phase 2 – Artwork Fabrication and Installation – will be added to the artist or artist team’s scope upon approval of full project (building and artwork) by the Adams County Board of County Commissioners. The selected artist or artist team will design to a fabrication and installation budget of $1,300,000.00.

Innovate Grants for Art + Photo

World Wide

Summary: Innovate Grant awards two $1,800 grants each quarter to one visual artist and one photographer. In addition, eight applicants will receive honorable mentions, be featured on the website, and join a growing community. International artists and photographers working in any medium are eligible.

Innovate Grant was created out of the frustration of applying to grants with time-consuming requirements. These lengthy applications took valuable time and energy away from making new work. Countless hours were always sacrificed in either writing artist statements, crafting project proposals and getting letters of recommendation.

Budget: $1,800

Summary: The Kansas City, Missouri Parks and Recreation Department is excited to announce a call for an experienced artist or an artist team to design and implement thematically related exterior, site-responsive sculptures or installations of original design for Brush Creek Cultural Heritage Trail. The artwork should actively engage visitors and enhance the natural beauty of the park. The Brush Creek Cultural Heritage Trail is envisioned to be a series of interconnected nodes that tell the story of the American Civil Rights Movement and the Black experience in Kansas City.

Art Exposed ReVision Florence

Florence, Oregon

Summary: The City of Florence is pleased to invite emerging, mid-career, and established artists to submit work to the Public Art Committee’s program, Art Exposed, a rotating outdoor art gallery. Florence is offering artists an opportunity to display their work on a .7-mile stretch of Highway 101, called ReVision Florence, for a two-year period.

The Committee, since its inception in 2015, has installed 23 pieces of art, including a large-scale mural at the Highway 126 gateway entrance to Florence.

Budget: Artists will receive a stipend of $1,500 to display their work for two years.

Call for Physical Sculptures in Augmented Reality Exhibition

Coupeville, Washington

Summary: You have the opportunity to participate in a sculpture exhibition that is the first of its kind in the world: An Augmented Reality exhibition of real-world sculptures that will be virtually displayed via an app onto a real-world outdoor pedestal in a beautiful forested public sculpture park setting. This exhibit opened successfully in 2023, and we now offer a Call for Artists for the second annual AR exhibition in 2024.

We are seeking sculptures that fit well within one of our two themes: Nature Nurtured and Whimsy Way

If selected for the exhibition, your later preparation steps can be done simply and remotely from anywhere in the world at your studio or wherever your physical sculpture is currently located, with no requirements for travel or onsite installation.
