Call for Artists March 1-10

March heats up with 14 call for artists with deadlines March 1-10, 2021. Whether you are looking for an exhibition, an art on loan program, or an opportunity for a sculpture commission, be sure to read through and find the right call for you. Note that at least one of these calls requires a concept with submission while others do not.

Art in the Park

Loveland, Colorado

Summary: The Thompson Valley Art League has organized Loveland’s Art in the Park event for over 50 years. Held the first weekend in August of each year in conjunction with Loveland’s famous International Sculpture Show. Art in the Park is the longest running Artisan Festival in Colorado for over 50 years, featuring over 150 juried artisans showing a diverse collection of excellent artwork. It has become a sought-after summer show in the region with booths filling up by late spring of each year.

University Health Women’s & Children’s Hospital: Design Enhancement for Hospital Levels G-12

San Antonio, Texas

Summary: University Health’s Salud-Arte Art of Healing program seeks artists and artist teams to artfully enhance with original designs select locations/areas on twelve floors of the new Women’s & Children’s Hospital at University Health’s Medical Center campus. Designs will be printed on wall films, acrovyn, and/or other similar materials and be thoughtfully integrated within the architectural features of each floor. The building is set to open in early 2023. The commissioned artwork will thoughtfully respond to this unique context in a way consistent with the mission of University Health.

Budget: $120,000 (to be divided across 12 floors) The total project budget ($120,000) will be divided among 6 selected artists (two solo artists, two apprentices, and two mentors).

University Health Women’s & Children’s Hospital: Public Elevator Lobbies, Floors G-12

San Antonio, Texas

Summary: University Health’s Salud-Arte: Art of Healing program seeks an artist or artist team to artfully enhance the public elevator lobbies for Levels G-12 of the new Women’s & Children’s Hospital at University Hospital’s Medical Center campus. This includes designing and incorporating wayfinding signage in these spaces. The building is set to open in early 2023. The commissioned artwork will thoughtfully respond to this unique context in a way consistent with the mission of University Health.

Budget: $60,000. The total project budget ($60,000) will be granted to one artist or artist team.

Labyrinth Gateway

Runnemede, New Jersey

Summary: Reimagine Runnemede is seeking an artist or team of artists to create a gateway to a meditative labyrinth. RR is looking for applications showing artists conceptual plans and preliminary designs in advance of fabrication and installation of the work to be located in Beaver Branch Park (Green Acres) Runnemede, NJ.

Eligibility Requirements: This opportunity is open to all emerging and established artists, individuals, and artist-led teams, who have completed projects for private clients, public agencies, or grassroots/community projects. Artist teams of any size may apply. Prior Public Art experience is not a requirement to submit information to RR. Artists residing in Camden County, NJ are encouraged to apply.

Special Notes: Information and materials submitted in response to the RFP will be evaluated by RR Board of Directors and local community stakeholders. Based on concepts submitted 1 or more artists will be invited to meet with the Selection Committee and asked to develop a full proposal.

Art for the People

Decatur, Georgia

Summary: The Beacon Hill Black Alliance for Human Rights, in conjunction with the Decatur Arts Alliance and Decatur Makers, invite professional artists or artist teams to submit a proposal to design and fabricate an installation to be placed on public land in the community of Beacon Hill in Decatur, Georgia. This piece will be an addition to the City of Decatur’s public art collection.

Budget: $30,000. Budget is 15k for the artist or team; 5k for the artist apprentice; 10k for materials.

Eligibility Requirements: We seek to commission a professional Black and/or Indigenous artists from the greater Atlanta area who is excited to engage in dialogue with our community of activists and makers as the
design and vision evolves and is finalized. Less-established or conceptual artists will also be eligible even if they do not have the resources to fabricate the artwork or sculpture themselves, so long as they can demonstrate an original body of work, as Decatur Makers will help with
sourcing of materials and will leverage their community network of expertise to assist with making the artist’s vision a reality.

Special Notes: This work should draw from themes of Afrofuturism through an interactive design that uses technology to constitute a powerful act of Black speculative imagination that embodies the most progressive and forward-looking aspects of Beacon Hill’s vision for a more just future for the African diaspora in America and Dekalb County, keeping in mind the cultural colonialism that often dominates mass culture.

Creative Sparks 2021

Bloomington, Minnesota

Summary: The City of Bloomington’s Creative Placemaking Commission in partnership with Artistry seeks local proposals for permanent or temporary sculptures that will be on display in Bloomington’s South Loop district. The selected sculptures will, independently and collectively, bring beauty, delight, interest, and a sense of whimsy to the area and will be enjoyed by South Loop residents, workers, and visitors.

Budget: $5,000 – $12,000

Albany County, Wyoming Courthouse North Entrance

Laramie, Wyoming

Summary: Albany County is completing a renovation of the County Courthouse in Laramie, Wyoming. Renovations should be complete in Winter 2021. An opportunity exists for a statement work of public art to be commissioned for the North Entrance. Artists and artist teams are invited to submit qualifications for this landmark work.

Budget: $44,000

Eligibility Requirements: The call is open to all artists age 18 and over, regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, age, military status, sexual orientation, marital status, or physical or mental cognition.  Preference will be given to artists who are Wyoming residents.

Special Notes: The Board of County Commissioners seeks to have new artwork created for and installed in this new space.  Work may be 2D or 3D.  Installation opportunities include, but are not limited to, floor and wall space. There will be a 18 in. x 24 in. bronze plaque installed on one of the interior walls acknowledging the Downey family who dedicated the original courthouse, which will be the only space unavailable to artwork.

Terrazzo Art Medallions – Nashville International Airport

Nashville, Tennessee

Summary: The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority (MNAA) and Arts at the Airport (AaA) invite artists/teams to submit proposals for the design of two separate terrazzo floor medallions to be in the wings of the Terminal Lobby of BNA@.

The Node at the A/B connector area and the Node at the C/D connector area are located respectively at the north and south ends of the Terminal Lobby. The artists/teams will create the floor medallion designs which will then be

produced and installed by a Terrazzo Floor Company to be selected by BNA.

Budget: The project design budget is $35,000 for each Node.

Eligibility Requirements: This call is open to artists and artist-teams living in the U.S. Applicants must have successfully completed at least one art commission (public or private) within the past five years. It is preferred artists have direct experience with a terrazzo floor design/installation, but not mandatory.

Special Notes: The art zone is a circle and measures 23’8”/16’0” in diameter in the A/B and C/D nodes respectively.

Police Substation III RFQ

Clearwater, Florida

Summary: The Clearwater Public Art & Design Program seeks an artist or artist team to develop artwork for the Clearwater Police Department Substation III Redevelopment. The project will consist of the demolition of the current substation, built in 1983, and the construction of a new 22,000 SF facility built to withstand a category 5 hurricane. This new facility will house an Emergency Operations Center and police training spaces. District III personnel are responsible for responding to, and handling, law enforcement calls for service, performing directed and proactive patrols of problem areas, community engagement, and general enforcement of local, state, and federal laws.

The project committee has identified an exterior concrete wall suitable for low or sunken relief designs. The committee has expressed interest in applicants that can capture and present the values of the Clearwater Police Department, which include dedication, dependability, pride, safety, service, and trust.

Budget: $75,000

Eligibility Requirements: This project is open to visual artists residing in the United States with experience executing their ideas from concept to completion and working in the public realm with public agencies. Regional artists are encouraged to apply.

Special Notes: This Request for Qualifications is the first step in the Clearwater Police Substation III public art selection process. Artists are not being asked to submit a specific proposal. This is a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) and not a Request for Proposals (RFP).

The Green Open Space at Washington & National Blvds.

Culver City, California

Summary: The City of Culver City will implement a permanent Public Art Program for the Washington/National TOD (Transit Oriented Development) District. The Washington National TOD Gateway Public Art Program will inspire artists in the creation of world-class, aesthetically rigorous artwork(s) that respond to the natural, cultural, and infrastructural resources present at the site. Formerly the site of the Hal Roach Studios, the Washington National TOD gateway has continued to be a site of artistic and entrepreneurial activity. This Public Art Program will offer artists the opportunity to aesthetically respond to the past, present, and future of this unique cultural site.

2021 Alamosa Artscape

Alamosa, Colorado

Summary: The City of Alamosa is accepting entries for the fifth annual “Alamosa ARTscape” Art on Loan Program. This public art program is open to all professional and amateur artists. Artists may submit up to three works. Judging will take place in March 2021 and 15 pieces will be selected based on their originality and suitability for outdoor display.

Budget: $750. The Artist will be paid a $750 honorarium upon on time delivery by the City of Alamosa, and two nights lodging in a local hotel on the night prior to installation and night of installation and reception.

Special Notes: Submissions must be more than two feet in height and valued at no more than $25,000.

2021 Art on Loan – South Suburban Parks and Recreation

Centennial and Littleton, Colorado

Summary: The 2021 Art-on-Loan Program administered by the South Suburban Public Art Committee (SSPAC), a committee appointed by the South Suburban Park and Recreation District (SSPRD) Board of Directors, is accepting proposals to promote and highlight local and Colorado artists and their work. The program is a year-long outdoor exhibit designed to promote public interest in art, develop community pride, and enhance the visitor experience around the Goodson Recreation Center (Centennial) and The Hudson Gardens & Events Center (Littleton).

Budget: $500 Exhibitor’s Honorarium is provided to each artist after the artwork is installed in June 2021

APFC Capital Project, Final Phase-Art Requirement

Juneau, Alaska

Summary: The purpose of this posting is to solicit proposals from Alaskan artists for the design and installation of artwork in designated areas within the Alaska Permanent Fund Corporation’s Headquarters.

Budget: APFC shall include works of art that collectively are at least one percent of the construction cost of the facility, which was approved by the legislature through a Capital Appropriation. The total budget will include design, production (including travel), and installation of the artwork. The Art Panel may consider one or multiple artworks per space. Artist must submit the cost associated with their proposal with the application.  

Deadline: 3/8/21. Design mockup should be completed and submitted in Café by March 8, 2021.

NJ Climate Resilience Public Art Projects

Trenton, New Jersey

Summary: New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts are pleased to present this call for artists as part of the Coastal Risk Communications Campaign.

Budget: Stipends of $7000 will be provided by the CBO’s to commission selected projects, with finished work expected for community events and exhibition in Summer 2021.
