Call for Artists: March Out Like a Lion

14 Call for Artists have crossed our desk to close out the month of March. There is a mixture of art on loan programs and commissions of varying sizes.

Canal Convergence | Water + Art + Light
Scottsdale, AZ
Summary: Scottsdale Public Art seeks proposals for outdoor, temporary public artworks to be featured in, around, and suspended above the Arizona Canal in Scottsdale, Arizona, during Canal Convergence | Water + Art + Light. Canal Convergence will be on view for 10 days. Some projects may be selected to stay installed for an additional 1–2 months after the Canal Convergence event dates.
Budget: $5,000 – $30,000 (With a limited number of larger budgets being awarded to major works of a larger physical scale.)

Eligibility Requirements: All local, regional, and international artists, artist teams/collectives, architects, designers, and multimedia specialists are invited to submit a proposal for Canal Convergence.

Juniata College Campus Sculpture RFQ
Huntingdon, PA
Summary: Juniata College seeks to acquire or commission a contemporary outdoor sculpture for its campus, located in Central Pennsylvania. This work will mark the entrance to the recently completed (2017) Kepple Hall for Integrated Media and Studio Arts. Kepple Hall houses 2D and 3D studios for traditional and digital media: a photo studio, two digital studios, a 3D fabrication studio, and painting and drawing studios; it is the first building on campus where students creating many forms of art can collaborate and view each other’s work on a daily basis.
It is desirable that the sculpture embody or suggest a spirit of peace and inclusivity, as might represent the intersection of academic disciplines (arts and sciences) and the welcoming nature of the campus community. Physically, the sculpture will mark a sightline that unites parts of the campus.

Union Depot’s 2020 Artist Submission Contest
St. Paul, MN
Summary: Enter for a chance to showcase your design at Union Depot. This large 3D sculpture is located under the Head House clock, greeting all Union Depot visitors as they enter. Submit your design to help turn this blank canvas into something amazing!

Sculpture on the Prairie
St. Charles, IL
Summary: Artists are invited to submit original artwork for the “Sculpture on the Prairie” exhibit to be held on the grounds of Fine Line Creative Arts Center, St. Charles, Illinois. Our beautiful 12-acre campus, located in the Fox River Valley, approximately one hour west of Chicago, is an ideal setting for sculptural works of art. The show is open to 3-D work in any sculpture or craft medium that is durable and can withstand the elements that occur on the prairie. The show will be curated by the Fine Line Kavanagh Gallery Committee.
Budget: Fine Line will pay the honorarium fee of $500 for each accepted sculpture.

Issaquah Dog Park Artwork
Issaquah, Washington
Summary: The City of Issaquah invites professional artists/artist teams to submit their qualifications for consideration to create functional artwork for the City’s new Tibbetts Valley Off-Leash Dog Park. The public art project budget is $25,000 for functional artwork to enhance the park – with a primary focused on park entrance(s). The selected artist/artist team will work with the City of Issaquah Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department and the Arts Commission through the artwork development and installation process.

Summary: The Art-in-Architecture Program of the Capital Development Board is pleased to announce a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to Illinois professional artists to create permanent original public art in the Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park at Governors State University in University Park, Illinois.

Art on the Move 2020-2021

Summary: The Art in Public Places Commission is seeking to display unique, original artwork of a diverse range and media. All artwork must be size/scale appropriate to available space; work will be installed in predetermined spaces selected by the panel. No additional lighting will be provided for any of the artwork.

10th Biennial Art 2C on Havana 2020-2022
Aurora, CO
Summary: The City of Aurora Art in Public Places Program (AIPP) and the On Havana Business Improvement District (Havana BID) are looking for outdoor sculpture to be considered for an exhibition on Havana Street in Aurora, CO, for two years. The exhibit is scheduled to open in October, 2020. Selected artists should anticipate installing their artwork in the first week of October, 2020 and de-installing it in mid-September, 2022.
Budget: Exhibiting artists will be paid a $2,500 stipend for the transportation, installation, and de-installation of their artwork.

Summary: Homes By DeSantis is seeking proposals for the creation and installation of a public art sculpture at their new Condominium Development located in the City of Stoney Creek, Ontario.
This is an exterior commission for a permanent public sculpture that will be located in front of the North/East Entrance facing the North Service Rd.

National Western Center Riverfront Public Art Project
Denver, Colorado
Summary: The City of Denver’s Public Art Program seeks to commission an artist or team of artists to create a signature work of art for the future improved Riverfront Open Space along the South Platte River at the National Western Center Campus in Denver. The selection panel has recommended a sculptural or architecturally-integrated artwork responsive to the site that will enhance the experience of those that visit the Riverfront Open Space.

Emerging artists, Colorado-based artists and artists working in media that is suitable for outdoor display are especially encouraged to apply.

HeART and Sole of Downtown Batesville
Batesville, Indiana
Summary: Our Town Public Art is a subcommittee of Batesville Area Arts Council’s (a 501(c)(3) non-profit arts organization) NEA Our Town Grant – HeART and Sole of Downtown Batesville. We are seeking qualified artists or artist teams to create outdoor permanent art projects for multiple locations in downtown Batesville. At least one art installation is planned before September 25, 2020.

If one design is significantly better and more impressive and has finance requirements close to the total budget of $50,000 we might choose that project.

Liberty MO Sculptures 2020
Liberty, Missouri
Summary: Liberty’s Public Art Sculpture Program is in its fourth year and is a way to expand a permanent collection of public art by featuring additional pieces that would be on display for a limited period of time. Additional locations for sculptures will be added each year. Up to twelve sculptures will be selected for installation

Phase IV-B Public Art Benches In The Woodlands Arts District
The Woodlands, TX
Summary: The Woodlands Arts Council invites local, national and international artists to apply for the next installation of the Woodlands Art Bench outdoor permanent collection located in The Woodlands, Texas, USA.
Phase IV-B of this public art project will feature four (4) new art benches to be installed along The Woodlands Waterway adjacent to The Cynthia Woods-Mitchell Pavilion (Ranked #3 Best Music & Outdoor amphitheater in the world). Through a partnership with The Woodlands Township and the generous funding of underwriters, twenty Art Benches have been commissioned and installed along The Woodlands Waterway and in the Hughes Landing commercial area adjacent to Lake Woodlands. Designed by local, national, and international artists, these one-of-a-kind art benches add beauty to our community while serving a practical function.
Budget: Three (3) semi-finalists will be chosen for each bench location in a preliminary selection process. Each semi-finalist will receive a $300 stipend. One (1) finalist for each location will be chosen to construct an art bench; each of the four finalists will receive $8,000 for bench selected and installed ($4,000 upon execution of Artist Agreement and the final $4,000 when Bench is delivered and accepted).
