Call for Artists Oct 2022

Fall is indeed a season of abundance with 28 call for artists with deadlines in October 2022. Whether you are looking for an exhibition, an art on loan program, or an opportunity for a sculpture commission, be sure to read through and find the right call for you.

Augusta Sculpture Trail 2023-2024

Augusta, Georgia

Summary:

The Greater Augusta Arts Council, as the public art agency for the City of Augusta, Georgia, is seeking ten (10) leasable, pre-existing, outdoor sculptures to be installed for two years in Downtown Augusta, GA for the Augusta Sculpture Trail. Artists may apply up to 5 times with separate sculptures. Please do not submit different sculptures in one application. Each application will be for one, individual sculpture.

This will be a temporary (2 year) installation in Downtown Augusta. All of the ten (10) sculpture sites will have a 4’x4’ concrete base, and are fully accessible.

Budget:

Selected artists will receive a stipend of $3,000 for the 2-year lease of their work ($1,500 upon installation, $1,500 upon de-installation).
There will be a purchase of artwork at the end of this temporary art installation to add to the City of Augusta’s permanent public art collection.

SculptureWalk Sioux Falls

Sioux Falls, South Dakota

Summary: Artist applications are now open for SculptureWalk Sioux Falls. Professional and amateur sculptors of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply to be part of the 2023 exhibit, which will be the organization’s 20th year of bringing art to the people. SculptureWalk features more than 60 new sculptures in downtown Sioux Falls annually.

Our goal is to be the highest quality, most professional, financially strong, artist-friendly, year-round outdoor sculpture program in the United States.

Budget: Each artist receives an honorarium of $1,500 per sculpture. Artists are also eligible to win the People’s Choice award of up to $20,000 and Best of Show award of up to $2,000.

Capitola Tree Stump Art Project

Capitola, California

Summary: On behalf of the City of Capitola, the Capitola Art and Cultural Commission is seeking an artist or artist team to preserve and embellish the tree stump located in the lower public parking lot on the south side of Monterey Avenue. This tree stump is estimated to be over 100 years old and arrived at its location from as a result of a mudslide from heavy rains in 2019. The stump is in a way a landmark for the town and a small bit of Capitola’s history.

Budget: $5,500

Eligibility Requirements: This opportunity is open to artists working or living along the west coast of the United States in California, Oregon, and Washington. Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they have all necessary permits to work in the United States at the time of submittal of qualifications.

Special Notes: The art project should incorporate proper preservation of the stump and include any measures necessary to maintain its integrity. For this project, the artist can modify the tree stump to improve its appearance, including but not limited to augmenting, carving, etching, whittling, chiseling & shaping. Artists should ensure that their art meets all ADA requirements as well as local building codes (see attached relevant codes). Pedestrian friendly aspects such as convenient hand holds, pinch points, snag points and vandalism concerns should be considered. Materials used should be weather resistant.

NRHC Ranch Life Learning Public Art

Lubbock, Texas

Summary: The Texas Tech University System seeks to commission a professional artist to create site-specific exterior sculpture(s) to be integrated into the new Ranch Life Learning Center (RLLC). Ideal submissions should incorporate a piece that will visually enhance and complete the outdoor strata wall. The RLLC is located within the National Ranching Heritage Center on the Texas Tech University campus, located in Lubbock, TX. Construction of the new facility will be completed by June 2023.

University of Nebraska Omaha | Durham Science Center

Omaha, Nebraska

Summary: Faculty from the different disciplines within the Durham Science Center primarily compose the Selection Committee. Their overarching goal is to create an inviting space with a sense of the key disciplines studied within the building. The Committee discussed work that portrays what it is like to be in a research lab, studying in depth different elements of the world, and then taking that knowledge and discoveries into the real world beyond the lab. They would like to see artwork with an interactive quality. That can include: students taking photos, physically or mentally engaging, or transforming the space in a way that interacting with the art is inherent.

Art & Lived Experience: Housing Insecurity

Adams County, Colorado

Summary: Adams County, Colorado seeks to commission an artist with lived experience of housing insecurity to:

1.      Facilitate a community-engaged artmaking series with residents experiencing homelessness.

2.      Create an interior artwork inspired by the program series to be displayed at the Adams County Government Center.

Art without Walls

Los Altos, California

Summary: Art Without Walls is a sculpture loan program (2 years) sponsored by the City of Los Altos Public Arts Commission. Art will be exhibited in business districts, parks and green spaces across our City, which currently showcases 30 loaned and owned pieces of art. This outdoor gallery is open year-round and is free for all visitors.

Currently we are looking for new works representing a variety of outdoor sculpture styles including: kinetic, lighted, mosaics, and large or small pieces of outdoor sculpture.

Budget: $1,500 stipend

Eligibility Requirements: Art Without Walls is open to all artists whose artwork meets the required sculpture specifications.

Utah State University Mehdi Heravi Global Teaching and Learning Center

Logan, Utah.

Summary: Utah State University in partnership with the Utah Division of Facilities Construction and Management and the Utah Arts & Museums’ Public Art Program requests qualifications from artists and/or artist teams interested in creating site specific artwork(s) for the new Mehdi Heravi Global Teaching & Learning Center at Utah State University in Logan, Utah.

The mission of the department is to explore thought, expression, and values in a global context. It seeks to increase its students’ abilities to communicate with others, to critically and sensitively investigate multiple means of understanding the human experience. The department helps students achieve the language and cultural proficiency necessary to become active members of the global community

The basic mission of the new facility is to provide state-of-the-art education and research space for faculty and students. It is the intent of the Art Selection Committee to commission a public artwork that will reflect the interests of this diverse, developing community. The artwork should be accessible to the public and enhance both the student and employee experience of the space.

Pullman Regional Hospital

Pullman, Washington

Summary: We seek local artists to help us capture the unique essence of health, healing and hope through artwork. We are requesting submission of one 2-dimentional artwork and one sculptural work to be displayed in the hospital’s front entry. New works and already created works will be considered. The selected works will be the property of Pullman Regional Hospital and will remain permanently displayed in the hospital.

Budget: There will be 2 works chosen, one 2-dementional wall art work, and one sculpture work, and the artist of each work will receive $1000.00

Decatur Artway VIII

Decatur, Georgia

Summary: The Decatur Artway kicks off another year as Decatur’s outdoor gallery, featuring dynamic sculptures scattered throughout the city of Decatur. Sculptures will be displayed on temporary loan for two years, creating an engaging rotating collection of public art around town. An interactive online map will permit public engagement and increase accessibility, and a plaque at each installation site will detail information about the artist and the sculpture

The sculpture must be available for the duration of the two-year contract. All submissions must be professionally constructed of durable materials which will withstand the elements. No maquettes or renderings will be considered for selection. We will only accept existing and ready to install works. 

Budget: Selected artists will be awarded an honorarium of $2000

Decatur Retail District Sculpture Call

Decatur, Georgia

Summary: Opportunities for art at the project site are limited to small to large sculptures (depending upon the specific site) composed of artistic stonework, metal, and environmental art. The materials must be appropriate for exterior installation and four season weather conditions of North Georgia. We are accepting submissions of completed work as well as work in progress at the time of submission. We will accept maquette and renderings for works in progress.

Budget: ACQUIRED WORK – Site A: Up to $40,000, Site B: Up to $50,000, Site C: Up to $30,000

Aurora Housing Authority Veterans Living Center

Aurora, Colorado

Summary: The Aurora Housing Authority and Aurora’s Art in Public Places Program have a history of working together to provide public art within the context of affordable housing.  This history has inspired the two programs to work together, both contributing funding to commission original work for the Liberty View Apartments.

The partnership envisions establishing a celebratory community space for Veterans and their families. This artwork will complete AHA’s vision for the site by honoring and enhancing the lives of Veterans and their families.

 The goal is to activate the space adjacent to the community garden encircled by a walking trail. This work should be celebratory and embody an inclusive, colorful, and inviting space that multigenerational friends, families, and communities will enjoy. This work should generate feelings of togetherness and excitement while encouraging residents to create memories with loved ones.

Norman Forward 1% For Art: Reaves Park Project

Norman, Oklahoma

Summary: Norman Arts Council on behalf of The City of Norman and Norman Forward Percent for Art for Reaves Park, is seeking an artist (or team of artists) to create a significant work of art for Reaves Park located at 2501 Jenkins Avenue, Norman, Oklahoma.

The Selection Panel has determined that the most effective artwork will be a monumental three-dimensional sculpture centrally located in the park on an axis with prominent site features and programmed areas.

Budget: $62,000

Special Notes: Because visibility and proper scale to the park are vital considerations, it is important to note that ballgames (taking place May through October), many festivals, and other activities take place not only during the day but at night too. The park is very well lit at night, particularly the ball fields, so there should be accommodations to have the artwork easily seen during that time as well during the day.

Bear Valley Park

Summary: The City of Denver’s Public Art Program seeks to commission an artist or team of artists to create an original public artwork, or series of artworks, for Bear Valley Park located at 6802 E. Schlessman Family Library

Denver, Colorado

Summary: The City of Denver’s Public Art Program seeks to commission an artist or team of artists to create an original public artwork, or series of artworks, for the Schlessman Family Library. The Schlessman Family Library is the second most visited branch in the Denver Public Library system and serves a multigenerational, diverse and broad subset of the community. As such, the panel is interested in artwork that appeals to the library’s many users. The panel is very invested in celebrating the community that visits Schlessman Family Library and creating artwork that is inclusive and accessible. The panel is interested in artwork that is interactive and playful, and that invokes a sense of excitement for those who view it. The panel is also interested in artwork that could provide opportunities for members of the community or nearby schools to be included in its creation.

Central Bank Sporting Complex

Kansas City, Missouri

Summary: The City of Kansas City, Missouri One Percent for Art program seeks to commission one or more professional visual artist(s) or artist team(s) from among a diverse, equitable and inclusive group of artists to design art for the entry gate steel mesh panels at the Central Bank Sporting Complex.

The gates are designed as steel mesh panels and offer high visibility and a sense of arrival. We feel they are the perfect canvas for artistic creation whether in the open or closed mode. Artists may either embellish the steel mesh or replace the steel mesh. If the steel mesh is replaced, the gate panel must still meet security requirements.

Eligibility Requirements: Eligibility is limited to professional visual artist teams or artists at least 18 years of age based in the Kansas City Combined Statistical Area (CSA). The Kansas City CSA includes the Missouri counties of Andrew, Bates, Buchanan, Caldwell, Cass, Clay, Clinton, DeKalb, Jackson, Lafayette, Platte, Ray and the Kansas counties of Doniphan, Douglas, Franklin, Johnson, Leavenworth, Linn, Miami, Wyandotte. Artists who do not live within one of the above counties can appeal their eligibility within their letter of interest.

Special Notes: evaluation criteria includes relevant prior experience: The artist has created projects of a similar scale and budget and has experience coordinating with multiple stakeholders, such as–but not limited to–architects, city project management staff, engineers, fabricators and union tradespeople–or the artist is jointly submitting the qualifications of a collaborator that has created such projects and that has such experience.

Outdoor Sculpture – Louisville Visual Art

Louisville, Kentucky

Summary:

Louisville Visual Art is transforming its warehouse at 1538 Lytle Street into a creative community hub in Louisville’s West End.  The new center for arts creativity will activate 32,000 sq. ft. of flexible indoor space as well as exterior resources to support artists.  LVA supports the life cycles of the region’s visual creatives, from elementary school throughout  their creative careers. The remodeled building, situated in the Portland neighborhood, will be a nexus of activity for artists, educators, activists, administrators, and creative practitioners of all stripes.  

LVA will consider multiple locations on our property for installation of the sculpture, but long-range visibility is a priority and would be most easily achieved through proximity to the NE property line facing Lytle Street.  An artist can propose a freestanding work, however there is an opportunity for an artwork to be architecturally integrated into one or more of the façades.

That mission produces a range of programs and activities for all residents and creative communities of the Kentuckiana region. Summary: The City of Boulder Stormwater Quality Program is looking to engage the public at stormwater control measures (SCMs) and increase awareness of stormwater and its impact on water quality. Art on the Street 2023 Call for Outdoor Sculptures

Lafayette, Colorado

Summary: Exhibit your sculpture outdoors in Old Town Lafayette, Colorado for one year.  Artists who participate in Lafayette’s Art on the Street (AOTS) sculpture on loan program tell us we are one of the best programs they’ve experienced. Lafayette has refined its community engagement and ability to promote the AOTS program and participating artists.  We feature each sculpture on its own web page and brochures are printed in English and Spanish

Budget: If your sculpture is selected by the Public Art Committee the honorarium is $1,200 for a one year installation.  Three additional prizes are awarded each year: the $1000 Jean Mellblom Award for Artistic Excellence; the $500 People’s Choice Award; and the $500 Most Inspiring! Award.  As we enter our 15th year, we have 20 Art on the Street sculpture locations to fill.

Eligibility Requirements: The Lafayette Public Art Committee is committed to community representation through the support of diverse public art in the Art on the Street Program. The sculpture must be an original creation by the artist(s) and must have a Louisville community participation or engagement component to it.

Lauritzen Gardens, outdoor sculpture

Omaha, Nebraska

Summary: Omaha’s Lauritzen Gardens is uniquely positioned as the region’s premier botanical center and garden resource. The Committee for the new Children’s Garden is seeking a permanent outdoor sculpture as a featured element that will have a lot of visibility from the interstate and from within the park.

Lauritzen Gardens is creating a new space dedicated primarily to children and those young at heart, which will have several different attractions and areas to learn and play. The Artwork for this call will be featured in the Discovery Overlook, which has tremendously scenic views of the Missouri River. The river’s flowing waters will carry through different design elements such as waves in the pavement and knee wall.

Budget: $180,000

New Additions to Benson Sculpture Garden

Loveland, Colorado

Summary: The Loveland High Plains Arts Council (LHPAC) is pleased to announce an online Call for Entry for new additions to Benson Sculpture Garden. Located in Loveland, Colorado, the 10-acre park provides a beautiful and unique outdoor setting for showcasing sculpture since 1985. Currently, there are 178 pieces of sculpture by world-renowned artists on permanent display. The collection is worth over $5 million.

While we are always accepting submissions for bronze pieces, we will also consider stone and metal pieces that are able to withstand the year-round weather conditions in Colorado as well as the many, unsupervised children who climb on and play with the sculpture.

Budget: there is no predetermined budget

Special Notes: For future maintenance and repair reasons, pieces must be produced at a US foundry that is approved by LHPAC.

Prospectus #269 Western and Central US Native and Indigenous Artists Purchase Initiative

New Mexico

Summary: The Art in Public Places program enriches New Mexico’s public spaces through an innovative and diverse public art collection.

Since its inception in 1986, the program has placed almost 3,000 works of art in all of New Mexico’s 33 counties. Our goal is to reflect the diversity of the arts in New Mexico, the Southwest, and the nation while building a dynamic public art collection for the State of New Mexico.

The goal of the 2022 US Native and Indigenous Artists Purchase Initiative is to diversify the state’s public art collection by purchasing artwork from Native or Indigenous artists in all stages of their careers. Although this initiative is open to all artists, special consideration shall be given to artists who identify as members of a Native American tribe or community. All visual arts media in all genres, suitable for interior or exterior display, will be considered for purchase. Artwork must be durable, permanent, low-maintenance and in compliance with ADA guidelines upon installation.

Budget: Project amounts are $1,000 – $50,000 all-inclusive

Eligibility Requirements: Although this initiative is open to all artists, special consideration shall be given to artists who identify as members of a Native American tribe or community. This call is open to artists residing in the Central, Mountain, or Pacific time zones of the United States as well as galleries in this region. Galleries may submit qualifications on behalf of any artist represented by the gallery, regardless of the artist’s residency.

Special Notes: The price of large exterior three-dimensional work should include site preparation and foundation.

Art in the Galleria at Loveland Public Library (2023)

Loveland, Colorado

Summary: The Art Selection Committee (ASC) of the Loveland Public Library seeks art by Colorado artists or artist teams for 2023 exhibits in the Galleria vitrines. The inside dimensions of the display cases are 69” H x 21” W x 19” D. Artwork must work well within the limits of the display case, and the hanging systems allowed limit weight of hanging art to 16 pounds.

Budget: A $100 prize for Best of Show for the Year will be awarded near the end of 2023 based on jury evaluation of all of the pieces selected and displayed during the year.

Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must reside in Colorado.

Special Notes: Art work selected in 2022 will be on display for one of four three-month periods in 2023. The time slots to be scheduled are January 1 through March 31, April 1 through June 30, July 1 through September 30, and October 1 through December 31.
