3 call for art for artists who can act fast!

Pharr Tennis Center

Austin, TX

Summary: The City of Austin / Art in Public Places (AIPP) is contracting an artist to create a permanent, exterior artwork for the Pharr Tennis Center.

Budget: $30,000

Deadline: 10/29/20

Eligibility Requirements: Artists must be at least 18 and live in the 7-county Austin metropolitan area (Williamson, Travis, Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Burnet, and Blanco counties).

Special Notes: Artists who are familiar with the Pharr Tennis Center and surrounding community and/or intimately connected to the history and heritage of the area are highly encouraged to apply.

UF ASB 619 Institute of Hispanic Latino Cultures (IHLC)

Gainesville, Florida

Summary: The primary focus for a mural is the courtyard, with walls facing south, west, and north. These walls are heavily shadowed by abstracted flag designs cast from the ceiling. The committee is looking for art that supports the identities of the IHLC which includes 27 countries and several languages.

The walls are made of a fiber panel known as Nichiha (https://www.nichiha.com/product/architecturalblock) with a decorative concrete masonry unit along the base of the walls.

Budget: $20,000

Deadline: 11/2/20

How to apply: CaFÉ

Eligibility Requirements: Artist has met at least two (2) of the following:

  1. the artist’s works are included in private, public, corporate or museum collections;
  2. the artist has received awards, grants or fellowships;
  3. the artist has completed other public commissions on a similar scale;
  4. the artist has participated in exhibitions at major museums or galleries.

Special Notes: Student Engagement is desired.

Shoreline Signals

Des Moines, Iowa

Summary: Part of the Central Iowa Water Trails initiative, an investment in over 80 river access points across 150 miles of rivers and creeks, Shoreline Signals will install at river access points across the larger Des Moines region. Artists are asked to create a repeatable prototype project that is interactive. This is an ambitious and large scale regional initiative with a budget to match. We seek interest and qualifications from highly-qualified artists.

Three artists (or teams) will be selected by mid-November to develop proposals.

Budget: “The overall project has a generous artist fee and a fabrication budget of $75,000 for one or more installed proof of concept prototypes.”

Deadline: 11/3/20

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability & references from successfully completed project with a budget of at least $125,000
  • Ability to work with a large team including professionals such as naturalists and engineers
  • History of work that is highly visually compelling
  • Demonstrated ability to engage diverse communities and reflect their needs
  • Demonstrated ability to use art as a problem-solving tool with novel and beautiful outcomes
