24 call for artists with December deadlines are included in this post. Some are major commissions, others are art on loan programs. Read through and find the one(s) that best suit you and have a very happy December. May visions of sculptures dance through your heads.

Law Enforcement Memorial Project
Dayton, Ohio
Summary: The Montgomery County Law Enforcement Memorial Association is seeking design proposals for a permanent outdoor memorial. The Memorial Association is a non-profit organization that represents a number of law enforcement agencies in southwest Ohio, including Dayton and nearby municipalities. Its mission is to help the families and coworkers of this county’s officers tragically killed or seriously injured in the line of duty.
The Memorial Association’s long term goal is to build a permanent outdoor memorial in honor of those fallen officers whose ultimate sacrifice helped keep their communities safe.
Budget: Submissions will be judged by the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Memorial Association’s Juried Arts Committee, which will select three semi-finalists who will each be awarded a $1,500 stipend. From those, the Committee will select a winner, who will be awarded a $150,000 commission to finalize, fabricate, transport, and install the memorial. The Association will also provide that artist up to an additional $50,000 for landscaping, and pay up to $25,000 of the costs associated with site preparation.

Eligibility Requirements: The competition is open to professional artists living in the U.S. within a 6-hour drive of Dayton (please see ‘6-hour drive time map’ at mcmemorial.com/submissions). Interested artists must include images and descriptions of at least 3 previously installed large scale works.
Special Notes: Deadline for submission of cover letter, resume, images of past works, narrative description, and conceptual sketch is December 1, 2020.
Notifications to the three semi-finalists is January 15, 2021. Presentations by the three semi-finalists will be held in early March, 2021. Notification to the winning artist is March 15, 2021. Deadline for the completion of the final design is May 15, 2021. Deadline for the completion of the installation is October 1, 2021.

Whittier Aquatic Center RFP
Whittier, California
Summary: The Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture seeks an artist or artist team to create an artwork for the Whittier Aquatic Center, scheduled to open in Summer, 2022.
Budget: $200,000

Summary: A hanging installation suspended from the roof structure of the Check-In Hall. Location within the hall to be proposed by semifinalist artists at a scale commensurate with the space

KCI Airport Escalator to Baggage Claim area
Kansas City, Missouri
Summary: A hanging installation will be suspended from the roof structure. The installation is located between the escalators and visible to passengers descending to the baggage claim hall.
Budget: up to $700,000, all inclusive
Budget includes, but is not limited to, stipends, design fees, travel, fabrication, supplies, material costs, delivery, approval by a Missouri-licensed engineer, lighting materials, installation, etc.

KCI Airport Retail Node A “Fountain” area
Kansas City, Missouri
Summary: The installation is inspired by Kansas City’s history as “The City of Fountains.” While no water may be used in this location due to its position above the terminal’s baggage system, it is intended to embody the qualities of a fountain and may be hung and/or floor mounted. The installation is centered on the clerestory “popup.” KCI intends to host musical performances in the space adjacent to the installation.

Summary: A hanging installation is suspended from the roof and centered on the “popup” clerestory. The installation will serve as a focal point for the B node and a wayfinding marker for passengers traveling within the terminal.

Airport Development Project: 6 Public Art Opportunities
San Diego, California
Summary: San Diego County Regional Airport Authority (“Authority” or “SAN”) seeks Statement of Qualifications (“SOQ”) from artists or artist teams (“Artist”, also known as “Respondent”, or “Applicant”) to design, fabricate, transport and deliver their artwork to San Diego International Airport (“Airport”). The Authority will install the Artist’s permanent artwork in conjunction with the Artist providing artwork installation consulting services. Artists working in all media are encouraged to apply.

Newport Beach Civic Center Sculpture Exhibition – Phase VI
Newport Beach, California
Summary: The City of Newport Beach (City) is pleased to announce a call for entries for Phase VI of its ongoing Invitational Sculpture Exhibition to further activate the splendor of the City’s Civic Center Park. Artists, private collectors, galleries, and museums/non-profit institutions are invited to submit artworks for consideration for a temporary exhibition at the site.
Budget: Selected artists will receive an honorarium of between $2,500 and $6,000 in exchange for a two-year loan of their artwork.

Eligibility Requirements: The work submitted exists in complete, installation-ready form AS OF THE TIME OF THE SUBMISSION. Proposals, renderings, miniatures, general work portfolios and other unfinished work states will be marked ineligible and not presented to the jury.
Special Notes: Up to ten artworks may be selected and showcased for two years in the heart of Newport Beach in Civic Center Park. The 14-acre, ocean-view site was specially designed by renowned landscape architect Peter Walker as an intended sculpture garden.

Fire Station #9

Summary: The City of Odessa and Odessa Arts are seeking qualified artists to create stained glass art to be installed in at the entry and West wing of the new fire station located on 87th street in Odessa, TX. This piece will be an addition to the City of Odessa’s public art collection
This art should speak to the purpose of the building as a home-away-from-home for Odessa Fire & Rescue, and relate to the theme of fire and light.

Maplewood Mall
Philadelphia, PA
Summary: The City of Philadelphia’s Percent for Art Program, through the Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy (OACCE), announces a two-stage selection process by which we will award and commission a site-specific artwork on Maplewood Mall. This commission is part of the $3.3 million City construction project by the City of Philadelphia Government through the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC).
This deadline is for Stage 1 of this competition. STAGE 2 – will consist of a full Request for Proposal (RFP), requiring full proposals and complete Applications. Only artists who have been pre-qualified in Stage 1 will be permitted to apply in Stage 2

Salisbury Sculpture Show
Salisbury, North Carolina
Summary: 2021 Salisbury Sculpture Show. Entering its 13th year, the Salisbury Sculpture Show has featured artists from more than 10 states and has earned regional and national recognition. The Salisbury Sculpture Show is a ten-month art show in which a select group of sculptures is placed throughout Salisbury, including in the downtown area and at the city’s three colleges.
Artists are invited to submit their outdoor pieces for consideration in the award-winning art installation program
Budget: Selected artists will receive a $1,250 stipend for each piece chosen the sculpture show. Typically, at least three best-in-show cash awards are given each year, and a 25% commission on work sold during the show builds funds for future public art in Salisbury.

Interactive ArtWalk Sculpture 2021
Coral Springs, Florida
Summary: The City of Coral Springs Public Art Program is requesting artist proposals and qualifications for a commissioned interactive sculpture significant in size for the ArtWalk on NW 31st Court. The artwork must be interactive, intergenerational family-oriented, iconic, and provide photo opportunities.
Budget: Existing Budget of $100,000; Budget for Selected Artist of $97,000
There will be two rounds of the selection process for this Call. The Jury will shortlist the top three artists. These artists will be given an honorarium of $1,000.

Special Notes: As part of Coral Springs’ dedication to the arts, the Public Art Committee is looking to commission an artist/artist team to create an interactive sculpture for the NW 31st Court ArtWalk. This sculpture should be significant in size and able to hold its own. It must have interactive aspects that involve the spectator. An interactive sculpture is a sculpture that encourages the observer to “walk” in, on and around them or have the spectator become part of the artwork itself. Kinetic sculptures are not welcome. There is a vertical minimum height of ten (10) feet. The artwork should have a dramatic aspect to it. The area provided for the pad is 10 ft. in diameter and plumbed for electric. Pad will be raised and sloped on the sides 6 inches and will be ADA accessible. The selected artist is responsible for the engineering design of the pad.

LaunchPAD (Public Art Duo) Program
Austin, Texas
Summary: The LaunchPAD Program (PAD = Public Art Duo) provides an opportunity for local artists to gain technical and administrative expertise needed to compete within the field of public art while providing services benefiting a public art project. This program is meant to be a professional development opportunity for local artists interested in a career in public art.
When will a LaunchPAD Artist be included in a project?
It is a goal for each project with a budget over $200,000 to include a LaunchPAD Artist, as determined feasible by Art in Public Places (AIPP) staff and approved by the AIPP Panel and Arts Commission.

Artist must be at least 18 years old.
Special Notes: The length of the LaunchPAD Artist contract will mirror the length of the commissioned artist’s total project duration. There is no expectation that an artwork will be created by the LaunchPAD Artist through this program.

APP Hawaii Call for Entry – COVID-19
Honolulu, Hawaii
Summary: In accordance with Hawaii Revised Statute 103-8.5, the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, Art in Public Places Program is requesting submissions from artists for artwork created in response to, or inspired from the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on life in Hawaii.
Goal is to support artists financially and promote the valuable role artists play in this time of global crisis, particularly within the state of Hawaii and our community, and to document artists’ response to the pandemic and economic and civil unrest. Artists play a unique role in telling the story of place and experience providing the viewer insight and hope. SFCA will consider works that are relevant to this crisis and the expectation is that artists are creating work based on their experiences through this time.
In this solicitation, we intend to establish a qualified pool of professional artists work for consideration.
Works of art considered will be acquired for the Art in Public Places Collection and displayed in public sites throughout the State of Hawaii, including the Hawaii State Art Museum.

21st Florida Outdoor Sculpture Competition
Lakeland, Florida
Summary: The City of Lakeland, Florida, in cooperation with the Polk Museum of Art, is accepting submissions from sculptors to participate in The 21st Annual Florida Outdoor Sculpture Competition. Submitted sculptures will be juried by representatives from the City of Lakeland, the Polk Museum of Art, and members of the local art community. The top-scoring sculptures will be selected for a one-year exhibition in downtown Lakeland, Florida. Sculptures will be on loan from February 2021 through February 2022. Sculptures will be publicized and a People’s Choices Award will be given based on the voting of the community.
Sculptures MUST be installed no later than March 1, 2021.
Budget: Each artist selected for the exhibition will receive a $1,500 honorarium to cover transportation, installation, and de-installation of the sculpture, and all incidental expenses involved.

Roundabout Monumental Sculpture Honoring Essential Workers During COVID-19 Pandemic
Utica, New York
Summary: Utica is soliciting ideas for a sculpture honoring pandemic essential workers for the roundabout, or traffic circle, under construction at one of the most traveled intersections in the city.
the sculpture is to be a permanent installation, and is to be 15 to 20 feet tall and no wider than 12 feet at the base, and will be mounted on a 16-foot round slab. Designs that include metal and stainless steel are highly recommended. Empire Recycling, including subsidiary Nathan Steel and the Empire scrap center in Utica, will provide support to the metal manufacturing and materials as needed.
