April 1-10 Call for Artists

Early April starts with 8 call for artists with deadlines April 1-10, 2021. Whether you are looking for an exhibition, an art on loan program, or an opportunity for a sculpture commission, be sure to read through and find the right call for you. Note that at least one of these calls requires a concept with submission while others do not.

Liberty MO Sculptures 2021-2022
Liberty, Missouri
Summary: Liberty’s Public Art Sculpture Program is a way to expand a permanent collection of public art by featuring additional pieces that would be on display for a limited period of time. Additional locations for sculptures will be added each year. All work entered must be freestanding and resilient to variant temperatures and outdoor elements as it will be displayed outdoors for long-term public display.
Budget: Selected artists will receive a $2,000 honorarium as well as public recognition and an opportunity for sales. The City of Liberty has the option to purchase at least one piece of art from the art pieces on display each cycle, which would become a part of the City’s permanent art collection. The purchase price may be up to $10,000.

Eligibility Requirements: The Liberty Public Art Sculpture Program is open to all artists regardless of location and who are at least 18 years of age. All entries must be original work and of safe design and construction.
Special Notes: Selected Artwork must be installed by September 20, 2021 and removed the first week of September 2022.

UPMC Hamot Patient Care Tower
Erie, PA
Summary: requesting qualifications from artists or artist teams who have established reputations for design, execution, and installation of public art projects. A preference will be given to artists or artist teams who have a portfolio reflecting work created and installed within a healthcare environment. The client is requesting qualifications from artists interested in creating an original art installation inside the newly constructed UPMC Hamot Patient Care Tower located in Erie, Pennsylvania. The finished artwork is expected to translate UPMC’s central values of diversity, equity, and inclusion into a visual narrative. The artwork will be installed in a first floor hallway spanning approximately 140’ in length and may consist of both 2D work, 3D work, or a combination of both.
Budget: $50,000.

Special Notes: Each finalist will be given an opportunity, either in-person or virtually, to tour the space and meet with community constituents. The finalists will be interviewed and present their proposals virtually to the Selection Committee. Finalists will each receive a stipend of $1,000 for their proposal.

Renewable Energy Project
Thornton, Colorado
Summary: seeking to commission original public art. This project will commission 3D, site specific work that will have a strong visual impact, engage visitors (specifically, youth), compliment the space-themed park. Artists will be challenged to present work that utilizes some form of renewable energy (solar, wind, etc.) that activates the piece and engages viewers. Artist are encouraged to explore contemporary materials, themes, and utilize interdisciplinary practices to meet the scope of the project in addition to unique and exciting use of technology.
Budget: $35,000

Eligibility Requirements: This is a national call; open to all artists, design teams, architectural firms, etc., age 18 and over, regardless of race, sex, color, religion, creed, national origin, gender identity, age, military status, sexual orientation, marital status, or disability.
Special Notes: The working area is approximately 15-feet by 20-feet, with no height or weight restrictions. The surface is crushed granite fines, not concrete. Additional foundational needs will need to come out of the project budget. Two trees are planted on the north side of the location, behind the boulder seating. These may impact project who propose solar energy.

RFQ for Creative Placemaking
Sugar Land, Texas
Summary: The City of Sugar Land, Texas requests artists or artist teams submit a statement of qualifications, letter of interest and other materials for the commission of projects through the Creative Placemaking Program, #AllinforSLTX, a program to aid local small businesses.
Budget: Depending on the size and complexity of the work, projects will fall in one of the following budget ranges:
A. $15,000 – $25,000
B. $25,001 – $50,000
C. $50,001 – $150,000

Native American Heritage & Water Preservation
Thornton, Colorado
Summary: This project will commission 3D, large-scale, site-specific work that will have a strong visual impact and push Thornton into a contemporary setting. The final design will include indigenous intervention into the practice of public art by honoring the location’s indigenous history in addition to the current cultural contributions made by Indigenous peoples in an effort to inspire an ethos for living in harmony with nature and preserving natural resources (given the locations close proximity to the South Platte River).
Budget: $75,000

Special Notes: Artists are strongly encouraged to explore contemporary materials, themes, and utilize interdisciplinary practices to meet the scope of the project in addition to unique and exciting use of technology. This project encourages artists to go beyond the use of static imagery to weave a dynamic, intersectional story of Indigenous cultures and influence that may inspire the preservation of water resources.

Old Town Art Stroll
Coppell, Texas
Summary: CAC will award a stipend to up to 12 professional sculptures that are appropriate for public viewing and supports the family / community oriented values of Coppell. Sculptures are owned by the artist and are loaned to the exhibit for a two year period. CAC does conduct fundraising to purchase a sculpture and gift to the town. All sculptures musts be safe for a public setting and made of materials that can withstand the harsh Texas weather and not require any maintenance.
Budget: The honorarium is $1,800 dollars with an additional $500 awarded to the People’s Choice

Eligibility Requirements: Open to Artists from Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Louisianna and Mississippi that are 18 years of age or older.

Art on 4th
Ketchum, Idaho
Summary: The city of Ketchum, Idaho, invites experienced artists to apply for Ketchum’s summer sculpture exhibition, “Art on Fourth.” Original three-dimensional artwork by selected artists will be displayed in outdoor public spaces along
Ketchum’s Fourth Street Heritage Corridor from June through October 2021. Selected artists will receive a $2,500
stipend for the exhibition of their work.

Special Notes: Artwork is on loan to the city during the exhibition period. If work is for sale, and sells during the exhibition dates, the artist is responsible for replacing it with another piece of similar quality and scale at the time of
removal. The replacement work must be approved by the selection committee.

4 Fire/Emergency Medical Services Station Opportunities
Austin, Texas
Summary: seeking to commission four (4) local artists or artist teams to create permanent public artwork for stations related to fire and emergency medical services. The commissioned artwork should reflect the mission of the Austin Fire Department and Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (AFD/EMS) “to create safer communities through prevention, preparedness, and effective emergency response.” Artworks should be integrated into the spaces of the stations. A range of materials and conceptual approaches are welcome!
Budget: A budget of $365,000 will be split across 4 AFD/EMS stations in Austin.

Eligibility Requirements: This AIPP project opportunity is reserved for those meeting the following eligibility: *Practicing visual artists or artist teams; *At least 18 years of age; and *Live and work in the Austin metropolitan area, which includes Travis, Williamson, Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Burnet and Blanco counties.
Special Notes: Four artists or artist teams will be selected to create artwork at four project locations. Each artist will work with the AFD and EMS departments and engage the surrounding community for inspiration. The artists selected for these commissions will be able to spend time observing and researching the work of Austin’s first responders and will reflect their time with the people of AFD/EMS in their final artwork.
