Happy New Year! Ring in 2023 with 10 call for artists with deadlines Jan. 13- 19, 2023. There are art-on-loan programs, existing art purchases and commission opportunities in this lot, so find the one that fits you best.

Tamarac Fire Station #15

Tamarac, Florida

Summary: The City of Tamarac, Florida is seeking to commission an artist or artist team to create an artwork of significant size and quality to be located at Fire Station #15, located at 6000 N. Hiatus Road, Tamarac, Fl 33321. This artwork will pay tribute to 50 years of service provided by Tamarac firefighters and their heroic acts of valor to the community. The artwork should reflect the spirit of Tamarac and be impactful to pedestrians and passerby traffic both day and night at this high traffic roadway.

Budget: $135,000. The winning artist will be awarded a $135,000 contract and will be responsible lightning, the footer, creation and installation of the final work.  The budget includes lighting he design must be approved by the city commission.

Eligibility Requirements: Artist must be age 18 or older living in the United States and  has experience in Public Art. 

Special Notes: Three artists will be selected as semi-finalists to develop and present design proposals. Each will receive a $1,500 stipend.

Great Sauk State Trail Public Art

Sauk City, Wisconsin

Summary: This public artwork should ideally be 100’ long and 6’ tall (smaller dimensions would be considered). The goal is to hide an unsightly fenced area with something more visually appealing and inviting to users of the trail. A freestanding mural or sculpture may be most ideal, but we encourage creativity in the design.

Budget: $40,000

Eligibility Requirements: Artist must reside in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, or Michigan and be over the age of 18.

Special Notes: Art on the GSST should respect the natural scenery, and speak to the history and geology of Sauk County. The artwork should also provide a sense of excitement and discovery and may or may not include interactive or kinetic elements. The art committee will place priority on artistic excellence, visual impact, connection to the history of Sauk County, demonstrated ability by the artist to execute projects of this scale, and durability.

Firefly Trail (TSPLOST Project #06 – Sub-project #2) – Trailhead

Athens, Georgia

Summary: The Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County (ACCGov) invites professional artists to submit a proposal and images of a public art concept for consideration in the Firefly Trail Network project in Athens, Georgia. The selected artist(s) will work with stakeholders and government staff to create public art that enhances the project and complements the selected site. A suitable public art installation will be a sculpture of landmark-scale and viewable from the trail and adjacent roadways.

Budget: $38,000

Deadline: 1/13/23

Eligibility Requirements: The project is open to professional artists (or team) 18 years and older, who are legal residents of and reside in the United States. It is preferable that the artist (or team) has experience working with public art projects and community government. We strongly encourage people of color, women, LGBTQIA+ individuals, people with disabilities, people from working-class backgrounds, and others from historically and currently marginalized communities that are not well represented or misrepresented within our society to apply. We recognize that many systemic barriers and actions have barred individuals from pursuing and being selected for these sorts of opportunities. As a result, we are committed to fostering equitable inclusion within this space. Ultimately, we believe that the more opportunities the diverse people in our communities have to produce art, the more engaged our audiences will be in the content we create, and the more inclusive our culture will become.

Special Notes: The goals for public art in this project are to enhance the visual and experiential appeal of the Firefly Trail Network, and foster community identity and pride.

Athens, Georgia

Summary: The Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County (ACCGov) invites professional artists to submit qualifications for consideration in the Firefly Trail Network project in Athens, Georgia. The selected artist(s) will work with stakeholders and government staff to create public art that enhances the project and complements the selected site. A suitable public art installation will be a sculpture of landmark-scale, viewable from the trail and road. This sculpture will serve as a shade shelter for the pre-existing resting area.

Budget: $75,000

RFP Ledges Event Center Project

Summit County, Utah

Summary: The Summit County Public Art Advisory Board (“SCPAAB”) is seeking artists to propose a concept for highly creative three-dimensional artwork to be installed on the east exterior of the Ledges Event Center at the Summit County Fairgrounds.

The SCPAAB seeks artwork for the east exterior of the building that reflects the culture, history, and strong community of the City of Coalville and Summit County, UT. Artwork submissions should engage the viewer well beyond the project’s installation. Project proposals may include any form of three-dimensional artwork. Preference may be given to artists who use sustainable practices in their work.

Budget: $38,000

Deadline: 1/13/23. Required materials must be received no later than 5 PM Mountain Time on Friday, January 13th, 2023. Online submissions and mailed application materials must be received, not postmarked, by the deadline. Late and/or incomplete proposals will not be accepted.

Eligibility Requirements: Any artist or team of artists interested in creating a three-dimensional art installation driven by the project goals, to be completed in Spring/Summer 2023, may complete a proposal in accordance with the guidelines provided below. Additional consideration may be given to submissions with stated relevance and ties to Summit County, UT.

Special Notes: The projected artwork installation period will take place in Spring/Summer of 2023, exact date to be determined, but ideally prior to the Summit County Fair in August. These dates are subject to change and artists are expected to remain as flexible as possible in this regard.

LSU Music & Dramatic Arts, Band Hall, & Cypress Residence Interactive Installation

Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Summary: Louisiana State University seeks to connect three sites, the Music and Dramatic Arts Building, the Band Hall, and Cypress Residential Hall, through thematically related permanent installations that highlight the importance of music and dramatic arts as a discipline, a vital form of creative expression, and a way bring people together. This project is open to a wide variety of artistic styles and approaches.

Budget: $250,000

Rotating Public Art Program: Series IV

Pasadena, California

Summary: The City of Pasadena is excited to embark upon the fourth iteration of the Rotating Public Art Program which will include the phased installation of eight public artworks at existing exterior locations throughout Pasadena. Artworks (both loaned and commissioned) will be exhibited for a 36-month period.

As part of Series IV, the City will select eight sculptural/three-dimensional public artworks in a variety of styles, materials, and approaches. This opportunity seeks both existing, loaned artworks, as well as proposals for new commissioned, site-responsive artworks from a diverse pool of professional artists/artist teams.

Budget: Artists will receive an honorarium of $8,000 for existing loaned artworks, and $12,000 for commissioned artworks to cover all related costs.

Madison Avenue Corridor

Loveland, Colorado

Summary: The City of Loveland is seeking a sculpture for the roundabout to be located at the intersection of 37th Street and Madison Avenue. Pedestrian access to the roundabout is not desirable; therefore, the sculpture should have an immediate visual impact that does not require an “up close and personal” inspection of the art. The sculpture will be located in the line of sight for motorists and passersby. The art scale should be appropriate to the scale of the site. 

Budget: A maximum of $49,000 has been allocated for the roundabout sculpture, including design, fabrication, insurance, installation, travel, contingency, and incidental costs.

Lamar Community College – Bowman Library

Lamar, Colorado

Summary: Colorado Creative Industries seeks to acquire a ceiling-hung artwork public art piece through direct purchase of an existing artwork – an original artwork that has already been completed – for Lamar Community College’s renovated Bowman Library.

Budget: Artworks below, or up to, the budget of $11,250 will be considered for purchase*

Eligibility Requirements: This opportunity is open to Colorado artists only. 

Special Notes: The committee is open to artworks of various media, as long as the artwork can be hung from the ceiling and hang down from the niche.

*Artist is required to deliver the artwork to the campus in Lamar, Colorado – please account for this delivery requirement when listing the cost of the artwork in the application. Price should also account for required hardware or anything necessary to hang the piece.

400 South Viaduct Trail – Request for Qualifications

Salt Lake City, Utah

Summary: The selected artist and/or artist-led team will work collaboratively with the contracted engineering design consultant and city stakeholders to identify and create aesthetic enhancements to the infrastructure to fulfill the 400 South Viaduct’s project goals. The resulting art elements are expected to be fully integrated into the project’s infrastructure.

Budget: $53,000
