July Call for Artists (Updated 7/14/23)

July 14 we have added 4 new calls, some with multiple opportunities and 4 additional call for artists have extended their deadlines.

Today we announce 16 call for artists with deadlines July 1-31, 2023. There are opportunities for you to show your work or be granted a commission. June 18 we added 11 more calls to this post for a total of 27 opportunities for sculptors–more than that really, since several are for more than one sculpture.

Richmond Ave Public Art Trail

Houston, Texas

Summary: Professional Artists from Texas and surrounding states are invited to submit proposals for temporary sculptures on one of the most traveled avenues in Houston. This is our fourth year and is sponsored by the St George Place Redevelopment Authority.

Arvada Bike Fence Activation

Arvada, Colorado

Summary: The Arvada Arts & Culture Commission is seeking qualifications from visual artists currently living in Colorado to design a large-scale art installation using bicycle imagery and motifs along a chain link fence at an outdoor bike safety training complex. The installation site consists of up to 220 linear feet of 8’ chain link fence at the bike safety training complex. Installation must attach to the chain link fence and be visually interesting to viewers from the street and viewers from within the bike safety training complex.

Coeur d’Alene Art Currents 2023

Coeur d’Alene, Idaho

Summary: ArtCurrents is looking for creative artists who capture the spirit and atmosphere of the environment in which we live. Pieces are encouraged which center on themes or interpretations of the Northwest in any form. These artworks may be in any medium that will withstand the elements year-round and can be abstract or realistic. ArtCurrents provides high-visibility outdoor gallery space for each piece chosen throughout high-traffic streets, parks, and public spaces in town. These pieces enrich the beauty of our city landscape while providing exposure to the artist with the intent of selling the piece.

Budget: selected artists will be paid a stipend of $1,000.00 for the first year. A second stipend of $1,000.00 will be paid to the artists at the start of the second year

Sandpoint Silver Box Program

Sandpoint, Idaho

Summary: The Sandpoint Arts, Culture and Historic Preservation Commission invites artists to apply for the Silver Box Project, a Public Art on loan program. Three sculptures will be selected, for a one-year loan. The artwork will be mounted on stainless steel bases located in Downtown Sandpoint.

Budget: Selected artwork/ artists will receive a $1000 honorarium. The City of Sandpoint may consider purchasing one or more of the selected sculptures to become a permanent part of the City of Sandpoint’s Public Art Collection. Only pieces priced at $10,000 or less will be considered for purchase.

Athmar Park Library–Deadline Extended to Tuesday, July 18, 2023

Summary: The City of Denver’s Public Art Program seeks to commission an artist or team of artists to create an original public artwork for the Denver Public Library. The Athmar Park Library is a community hub, and the panel would like the artwork to reflect the diversity of the neighborhood.

Pauline Robinson Library–Deadline Extended to Tuesday, July 18, 2023

Denver, Colorado

Summary: The City and County of Denver’s Public Art Program seeks to commission an artist or team of artists to create an original public artwork, or series of artworks, for the Denver Public Library: Pauline Robinson Branch. The panel is very invested in artwork that recognizes Pauline Robinson’s contributions to Park Hill and the greater Denver community. The panel is interested in artwork that highlights Black culture and its significance to the neighborhood and community.

Budget: $17,000

Special Notes: Pauline Robinson was a trailblazer who fought for equal rights and better opportunities for children. She was one of the first Black graduates from the University of Denver and became the first Black librarian in Denver in 1943.

Ross-Barnum Library–Deadline Extended to Tuesday, July 18, 2023

Denver, Colorado

Summary: The City of Denver’s Public Art Program seeks to commission an artist or team of artists to create an original public artwork for the Ross-Barnum Library. The original Barnum Branch Library first set up shop in a firehouse, circa 1919. Organized by librarian Florence Briber, the firefighters themselves helped in setting up the shelves and shelving books, and the branch operated together with the working fire station.

The branch serves a diverse area with Spanish and Vietnamese speakers as a large percentage of its patrons. Families represent a large segment of customers. The branch’s collection reflects the neighborhood’s diversity, and the library staff works hard to ensure access to materials and programs for these customers.

Budget: $20,000

Special Notes: The panel is invested in artwork that is welcoming, inclusive and outward facing for the larger community. The panel would like to see artwork that is culturally representative of the diverse neighborhood. The panel encourages intentional artwork that draws focus to the entryway. While not required, the panel is interested in artwork that could be interactive or artwork that provides opportunities for the community to be included in its creation.

Covington WA Rotating Art Call

Covington, Washington

Summary: The City seeks unique art pieces complimentary to the park with the idea of creative placemaking. Selected public art pieces are to be loaned to the City and temporarily installed at Covington Community Park. A total of two pieces of public art will be selected for two separate locations at the park. Entries are limited to existing art pieces

Budget: 3 year contract stipend of $1,000/year + de/install reimbursement up to $1,500

Palisade Art Vision, PAV, 8th Annual Public Sculpture Exhibit

Palisade, Colorado

Summary: PAV envisioned an outdoor sculpture program to promote a visible aesthetic voice and to supplement the agriculture tourism of Palisade. With the collaboration of the Town of Palisade Government, Palisade Chamber of Commerce, local businesses, art galleries and artists, PAV has grown from four temporary pieces to over a dozen and has purchased or sold five of the exhibited sculptures.

Budget: Each artist will receive a stipend, $750 for sidewalk or 24″ diameter pedestal sculptures, $350 for small 12″ pedestal sculptures.

Public Art Grant Program

Green Bay, Wisconsin

Summary: The Public Art Grant Program provides funds to artists/artist teams, creatives, makers, performers, arts organizations, and other cultural drivers, to enhance and increase arts and culture and public art opportunities within the city of Green Bay. Funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), funds are dedicated to supporting presentations, performances, workshops, research, and/or the creation of artwork within the City of Green Bay. The program strives to encourage artistic engagement, spur economic vibrancy, and revitalize Green Bay through the arts.

Qualified artists across disciplines are eligible to apply for support to carry out specific projects and activities. Grantees will demonstrate tangible results of work undertaken and completed during the award period from August 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023.

Budget: Applicants are eligible to receive a one-time grant between $2,500 – $10,000.

Deadline: July 10, 2023, at 5:00 PM Central

55th Avenue Promenade

Phoenix, Arizona

Summary: The Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture, in collaboration with the Parks and Recreation and Streets Transportation Departments, seeks to commission permanent artwork for the 55th Avenue Promenade, located between Camelback Road and Indian School Road in central Phoenix. The artwork must be made of durable materials that can survive the desert climate, provide shade in support of the City of Phoenix Cool Corridors Initiative, and enhance the pedestrian experience of this unique neighborhood amenity. Four locations have been identified however final placement will be determined based on the approved final design.

Budget: $300,000

Eligibility Requirements: This project is open to any professional artist with the demonstrated ability to meet the criteria (SEE SECTION III – EVALUATION AND SELECTION), regardless of residency, race, ethnicity, gender, age, or experience level. No previous public art experience is required to apply. Arizona artists are strongly encouraged to apply. NOTE: Artists who are currently under contract or have completed two or more public art projects with the City of Phoenix are ineligible to apply.

Special Notes: Some elements of the artwork may be installed by a City contractor, for convenience, depending on the final design of the artwork. However, all installation costs will be paid by the art budget.

Artistic Acoustic Sound Panels

Pompano Beach, Florida

Summary: The City of Pompano Beach is looking to commission an artist or artist team for work for hire artistic acoustic sound panels to be located at the new Senior Activity Center. The selected artist(s) should have experience with community engagement public art projects as they will be required to hold community engagement activities that will serve as inspiration in designing the acoustic sound panels. The engagement activities will engage the senior citizens of Pompano Beach and the final artworks are to be based on the senior citizens’ stories and history of Pompano Beach. The final artworks will be the design and fabrication of four (4) artistic acoustic sound panels: two (2) 6 by 20 feet and two (2) 6 by 70 feet.

Port of Alaska – Administration Building

Anchorage, Alaska

Summary: the Municipality of Anchorage is inviting qualified artists to create public artwork proposals for the Port of Alaska’s Administration building located in Anchorage, Alaska. The art selection jury intends to commission two separate works of art to be permanently installed at the Port of Alaska’s new Administration building, Observation Deck Railing and Facility Exterior Façade

Budget: The total budget for artwork is $64,700. This includes two separate project locations: $32,350 for location 1, and $32,350 for location 2.

Motiva Public Sculpture Project

Greenbelt, Maryland

Summary: Greenbelt Metro Apartments LLC, in partnership with the City of Greenbelt, is seeking to commission an artist or artist team to create three-dimensional artwork to be installed at 6400 Cherrywood Ln. in Greenbelt, MD. The artwork will be sited in a public plaza at the main entrance to Motiva, a new 354-unit residential development. The artwork may include a single sculpture or a piece with multiple components.

Budget: $35,000

Eligibility Requirements: Open to artists ages 18+ who reside in Maryland, Virginia, or the District of Columbia.

Special Notes: The artwork must be designed for permanency with a projected lifespan of at least 20 years. It should be: able to withstand climbing; resistant to weather, vandalism, wildlife, and groundskeeping impacts; and able to be maintained at a modest cost.

Utah State Developmental Center Comprehensive Therapy Building

American Fork, Utah

Summary: seeking artists interested in creating site-specific exterior artwork for the Comprehensive Therapy Building. The committee hopes to find artwork that is visually engaging and potentially interactive / sensory / tactile. However, any work that is proposed for this new facility will need to consider the sensitivity, vulnerability, and occasionally aggressive or violent conditions these tenants may be facing.

Summary: Commission up to two artist/artist teams to realize site specific artworks at two locations. The artwork should be appropriate for the character of the neighborhood, and each sites unique features. Artist(s) should create relevant works that further the sense of place, inspire, create dialogue and enhance the experience of this place.

Beach Blvd. Roundabout – Entry Sculpture Garden–Deadline Extended to 7/21/23

Jacksonville Beach, Florida

Summary: The Community Redevelopment Agency of Jacksonville Beach is seeking proposals for a permanent structure that highlights the pedestrian friendly, beach life, and growing entrepreneurial spirit that is Jacksonville Beach. The Agency envisions this piece utilizing materials that all ages can engage with and enjoy, and an artist who is well versed in working within the elements of the site. The agency envisions a statement piece that is a focal point into the Downtown district, as well as a welcoming area where citizens and visitors can congregate in an engaging and safe manner.

Fall Heritage Park Public Art Instillation

Summary: Preferred design colorful, interactive and engaging with a sense of motion and color. Design should contain elements related to DIA however will also be suitable for public viewing for the fall event season. Art in the Heart of Main South

Worcester, Massachusetts

Summary: A panel of visual artists, community activists and Clark University community relations officers will select seven sculptures for Art in the Heart of Main South.

Although color is desired, works chosen will be based on quality, design, durability, scale, suitability for an outdoor environment, safety to the public, and stable mounting. Sculptures should be able to be well anchored to a base platform, into the earth or securely suspended from trees. The call organizers will site the sculptures in the grounds and trees on Clark University’s Campus and in University Park within guidelines set by the University and the Supervisor of the Worcester Public Parks Department, respectively. 

Artists may submit up to three existing and/or proposed site-specific sculptures.

Alligator Sculpture at Phinizy Nature Center

Augusta, Georgia

Summary: The Greater Augusta Arts Council, on behalf of the Phinizy Center for Water Sciences, is requesting proposals from qualified sculptors or artist teams to create a unique, durable, low-maintenance, interactive, safe to touch, life-sized sculpture of an alligator to be placed on the grounds of the Phinizy Center.

The purpose of this call is to create an interactive, realistic, life-sized sculpture of an alligator for younger park guests to engage with. The sculpture will be located in a shaded area beneath a beautiful live oak tree, across a grassy sward from the play area where Phinizy’s younger guests usually spend part of their time while visiting.

Budget: $15,000

Eligibility Requirements: The request for proposals is open to all professional sculptors and artist teams residing in the Southeast region of the United States (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee). Proof of residency is required. All members of any team that applies must be at least 18 years of age and reside in the United States.

Special Notes: The proposed work (and any base) must exist within the following dimensional profile: 
Not higher than approximately half a meter in the area where a child might sit
2.5 – 5 meters in length

Cedar Park Community Sculpture Garden

Summary: The City of Cedar Park, located just 17 miles from downtown Austin, is the third largest city in the Austin area with a population exceeding 86,000 within its city limits. The City of Cedar Park attracts residents and visitors from all over the globe because of its unique charm, close proximity to Austin and the Texas Hill Country, and the beauty surrounding the Lower Colorado River Lake System. Horton Public Art RFQ (4 opportunities)

San Diego, California

Summary: This call for artists will reach out for four different project opportunities on the project site.
The aim for all four artwork opportunities is to create world-class public artwork in a
diverse range of mediums that are designed to engage the community, and showcase the
cultural diversity of the city and enhance the various civic and public spaces.

Budget: There is a significant budget range for each art opportunity at Horton, crafted to
create opportunities for emerging talent, and inspire established artists who look to
reach the millions of annual visitors coming to the Campus at Horton.

overlooked historic significance as a gathering place.

Pillars of Palm Springs

Summary: The Palm Springs Public Arts Commission is proud to announce the funding for the creation of six new, permanent artworks. Each individual sculpture will represent an equity that represents the core ethos and identifier for Palm Springs community— a figurative and literal “value” pillar of our city. Artists from all backgrounds and from all levels of experience and engagement are encouraged to enter.

Budget: $300,000. Six recipients will each receive an award of $50,000 to create and install their approved artwork.

2023 Kinetic Art Program: Wind, Water, and Light

Cheyenne, Wyoming

Summary: Arts Cheyenne is seeking unique pieces of work, where movement, color, sound and other sensory experiences are focused on, in addition to consideration of the environment the piece will be displayed in. There will be no electrical power available at any of the placement sites, therefore, natural elements must be relied upon for the movement required of each piece. Additionally, each piece must be self-contained, stable, and durable for both its environment and for the safety of any living thing nearby. The sculptures will be installed outdoors in various parks around the Cheyenne community from September 2023 until September 2024.

Budget: Selected artists will be awarded an honorarium of $1,000.

Sculpture – Clearwater Beach Fire Station – RFQ

Clearwater Beach, Florida

Summary: The Clearwater Public Art & Design Program seeks an artist or artist team to develop artwork for the newly constructed Fire Station 46. The sculpture will sit in front of the fire station next to a busy sidewalk and commuter street. The structure should also contain a lighted element, either beneath the base of the sculpture to illuminate from within or uplighting so passersby can enjoy the sculpture in the day or night. Themes and topics suggested but not limited to fire elements, water elements, and/or fire station patches that firefighters exchange with other city and state fire departments.

Budget: $75,000

Summary: Seeking artist to create site-specific sculpture. It should represent the wind-swept trees commonly seen on forested islands and other areas affected by continuous Gulf winds.

Central Pointe Public Art RFQ, (4 potential projects)

Summary:

The aim for all four artwork opportunities is to create world-class public artwork in a
diverse range of mediums that are designed to engage the community, and showcase the
cultural diversity of the City and enhance the various civic and public spaces.

Budget: Each of the 4 potential artwork locations has an allocated budget ranging from
$150,000 to $250,000.

The exact final commission contracts will be determined based on the approved and
selected proposals and the needs of each.

St. James AMEC Culture Crossing Design Enhancements

San Antonio, Texas

Summary: The San Antonio River Foundation (River Foundation), in partnership with the San Antonio River Authority, the City of San Antonio, and Bexar County, seeks to commission a large-scale installation, which will feature a permanent shade structure and the display of more than 300 names, for the St. James AMEC Culture Crossing (Culture Crossing) at San Pedro Creek Culture Park. The shade structure must be functional and provide protection from the elements (sun, rain, etc.), be made from sturdy, low-maintenance materials suitable for the creek environment, and be placed over the former site and archaeological footprint of the St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME Church). This cohesive design, to encompass the entire Culture Crossing, will serve as a signature work of art to honor one of the most historically significant sections of the park.

Budget: $600,000-$750,000

Public Art for the Will Rogers World Airport

Summary: Artists and artist teams are invited to submit qualifications for the design and installation of artwork in the Will Rogers World Airport (WRWA), Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The artwork is being commissioned by Sister Cities OKC (SCOKC) and will be owned and maintained by The City of Oklahoma City (City) upon completion. The Oklahoma City Airport Trust (Trust) will provide to the City a location for the display in the terminal.

Eligibility Requirements: This opportunity is open to all practicing artists who are at least 18 years of age. All artists and/or artist teams selected as finalists must attend the mandatory site tour. Artist teams may include artist apprentices younger than 18, as long as written permission for participation in the artwork process from the artist apprentice’s parent or guardian is provided.
The artist or artist team that is selected for the award must identify a locally based (living within a 120-mile radius of the Project site)

Special Notes: The artwork sought through this Request for Qualifications (RFQ) is the creation of either a 3-D Artistic Map or Video Screen Digital Art that identifies Oklahoma City and Oklahoma City’s seven Sister Cities around the world (Work). The Sister Cities are Haikou-China, Puebla-Mexico, Tainan-Taiwan, Piura-Peru, Kigali City-Rwanda, Rio de Janeiro-Brazil, and Taipei-Taiwan. The installation will be mounted to a wall in the center concourse area on the secured side of the Terminal in the Airport. Crockett Dog Park Public Art Project

Dallas, Texas

Summary: The Public Art Program of the City of Dallas Office of Arts & Culture requests the submission of qualifications from artists or artist teams to design, fabricate and install a work of public art at Crockett Dog Park. Public Art designs (3D) will depict canine themes to be located in between the designated areas for large and small dogs.

Sandpoint Silver Box Program

Sandpoint, Idaho

Summary: The Sandpoint Arts, Culture and Historic Preservation Commission invites artists to apply for the Silver Box Project, a Public Art on loan program. Three sculptures will be selected, for a one-year loan. The artwork will be mounted on stainless steel bases located in Downtown Sandpoint. The City of Sandpoint may consider purchasing one or more of the selected sculptures to become a permanent part of the City of Sandpoint’s Public Art Collection. Only pieces priced at $10,000 or less will be considered for purchase.

Budget: Selected artwork/ artists will receive a $1000 honorarium.
