Today we are releasing 15 call for artists with deadlines running from June 16 -30, 2022.

June 13, 2022 three additional calls have been added making 18 opportunities for sculptors with deadlines during the 2nd half of June.

Sister Cities – Sculpture for Ciudad Guzmán

Longmont, Colorado

Summary: Art in Public Places is interested in commissioning a Colorado artist or artist team to create a site-specific sculpture for gathering and seating at Flanders Neighborhood Park. The sculpture will highlight and celebrate 25 years of partnership between Ciudad Guzmán, Mexico and Longmont, Colorado. The sculpture will inspire a sense of connectedness. As a gathering location, the project should embody the sentiment of the Longmont Sister Cities Association mission to strengthen connections within our own community and through the world community

Budget: $40,000

“Eye On Art” Window Installations for The Ion District

Houston, Texas

Summary: The Ion and Rice Management Company request qualifications and preliminary installation proposals from artists or artist teams for the “Eye On Art” display windows located at The Ion, the newly renovated historic Sears building that is the hub of Houston’s innovation economy. Two artists/teams will be selected to create site-specific installations in each of the display window banks to be exhibited for 6 months.

Budget: $40,000 (Commission budget is $20,000.00 per window display inclusive of all work including, but not limited to, artists’ fees, final design, wall prep, engineering, insurance costs for the project, lighting (if necessary), software, studio and project administration, travel, fabrication, all materials, installation, de-installation, maintenance and required documentation.)

Public Art for Wake County Public Health & Human Services Campus

Raleigh, North Carolina

Summary: Wake County seeks to commission a professional artist to create a site-specific exterior artwork to be placed at the New Wake County Public Health Building & Parking Deck.

Trebly Park – Café Artwork Commission

Houston, Texas

Summary: The Downtown Redevelopment Authority/Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone No.3 (DRA / TIRZ 3) and Weingarten Art Group (WAG) invite Houston artists/artist teams to submit designs for an interior artwork to be installed at the newest site of Tout Suite, Houston’s well-loved EaDo café, to be located at Trebly Park, Downtown’s newest greenspace, scheduled to open to the public in early-September 2022. One artist/artist team will be selected to realize this permanent installation.

DRA and WAG seek a site-specific commission to activate the east wall of Tout Suite Café. The commission will be highly visible from both interior and exterior viewpoints, with the wall measuring approximately 9’H x 14’6”W.

Prospectus #267 Exterior Public Art Call for Purchase – NM Department of Agriculture at NMSU

Las Cruces, New Mexico

Summary: The Art in Public Places Program of New Mexico Arts and the Local Selection Committee (LSC) at New Mexico State University (NMSU) and New Mexico Department of Agriculture (NMDA) seek to purchase 1 to 3 EXTERIOR artworks ready for purchase. These artworks will need to withstand a permanent installation outdoors in an uncovered area of the NMDA courtyard at the NMSU campus in Las Cruces, NM. The LSC is interested in artwork contemporary in nature that explores the following ideas centered around AGRICULTURE: history of agriculture, illustrates the importance of agriculture to New Mexicans/our society and culture, the positive impacts of the agriculture industry, narrations on how the agricultural industry touches our lives every day.

Budget: Up to $335,000 will be utilized to purchase 1-3 EXTERIOR artworks.

Link Rapid Transit – Public Art

Rochester, Minnesota

Summary: Through the preliminary design development of Link Rapid Transit and the public engagement process, including work conducted by the Community Co-design team, the integration of art in the station designs was identified as a high priority for the aesthetics and user experience. As an outcome, the City of Rochester is seeking interested Artists or Artist Teams to submit their qualifications to join in on this exciting aspect of the project. This is an open call to artists working locally, regionally, and nationally.

Art is envisioned to be an integral part of the station design, not just an added element. Art and artist will represent the past, present, and future of the City of Rochester to celebrate the diverse community, cultures, environment, and seasons that make Rochester a unique and special place with emphasis on the districts and neighborhoods which Link will connect.

Budget: $60,000 per Station Platform (12 Platforms total)

Arts R Alive in Webster City 12th Annual Sculpture Event

Webster City, Iowa

Summary: The Arts R Alive in Webster City, Iowa committee will sponsor its twelfth annual Public Art Sculpture Event in Webster CIty, Iowa during the month of August 2022. A jury with sculpture art background will review the pieces and will choose the pieces to be displayed. The piece should be in place by August 1, 2022.

Budget: Up to 10 sculptures will be chosen by a jury to be displayed. Those 10 artists will each receive a $1100.00 monetary award. Their pieces will be on display for up to one year.

RFP #2022-12 Physical Public Art in the Theater Plaza at Merced College

Merced, California

Summary: Merced College would like to invite artists and/or artist teams to submit their proposal to create physical public art in the Theater Plaza at Merced College. In 2020 the family of Hermoine Isakow approached Merced College to honor their late mother. It was established that the family would like to commission a piece of art to commemorate her love of South Africa and its native birds as well as being outdoors. The initial renderings were of a Baobab tree which was illuminated from the inside and had cutouts of birds in the trunk which would illuminate in the evening. We would like to keep the design somewhat close to this concept, but does not have to be exact.

The Ion Plaza Temporary Art Installation

Houston, Texas

Summary: The Ion District and Rice Management Company request qualifications and preliminary installation proposals from artists or artist teams to create a site-specific temporary installation on the Ion outdoor plaza located within the Ion District for three months, from January through March 2023. The artwork should be interactive, engaging, playful and contain a lighting element. It should also have a presence during daylight hours.

Capitola Tree Stump Art Project

Capitola, California

Summary: On behalf of the City of Capitola, the Capitola Art and Cultural Commission is seeking an artist or artist team to preserve and embellish the tree stump located in the lower public parking lot on the south side of Monterey Avenue. his tree stump is estimated to be over 100 years old and arrived at its location from as a result of a mudslide from heavy rains in 2019. The stump is in a way a landmark for the town and a small bit of Capitola’s history. It is approximately 7 feet in diameter and 4 feet deep.

Eligibility Requirements: This opportunity is open to artists working or living along the west coast of the United States in California, Oregon, and Washington.

Special Notes: The art project should incorporate proper preservation of the stump and include any measures necessary to maintain its integrity. For this project, the artist can modify the tree stump to improve its appearance. Artists should ensure that their art meets all ADA requirements as well as local building codes (see attached relevant codes). Pedestrian friendly aspects such as convenient hand holds, pinch points, snag points and vandalism concerns should be considered. Materials used should be weather resistant. All noise ordinance guidelines enforced by the City shall be adhered to by the artist during the life of the project

RFQ: 3-D/ Sculptural Artwork for Frostburg State University Education & Health Sciences Center

Summary: Frostburg State University (FSU), in partnership with the Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC) seeks to commission an artist or artist team to create durable, unique, permanent public artwork for the new Education & Health Sciences Center (E&HSC).

Rowan University Chamberlain Student Center: Expression of Interest

Glassboro, New Jersey 

Summary: Rowan University is seeking to commission public artwork(s) that will be integrated into the design for a new addition to the Chamberlain Student Center, referred to as the “Agora.” (site plans provided).

Eligibility Requirements: All applicants must be regionally based residing no more than 150 miles from Rowan University (Glassboro, NJ). Priority applicants: Individuals who self-identify as women and BIPOC artists, both of which are currently underrepresented in the University’s current public art collection.

Special Notes: Potential artists will be selected from those who submit expressions of interest (EOI). Shortlisted artists will receive a request for proposal (RFP) to respond to with a proposal that outlines their approach and ability to create the project. A stipend of $1000 will be provided to shortlisted artists to offset costs related to proposal preparation.

ManneqART Sculpture on The Human Form

Savage, Maryland

Summary: Create an artwork that can be worn on a live person that brings attention to one of the four categories specified for this year. It is open to all age groups. There are additional prizes for younger artists. Artists may model their work or have us provide a model. The model must be able to climb stairs for safety. The artwork must not weigh more than 30 pounds and have no sharp parts poking the model. Artwork and characters must be original. This is not a Cos-play competition.

The artwork may be from any materials including trash or recycled. It must not contain real food or any material that disintegrates within one year. Sturdy twigs are acceptable. Violence is a difficult area to navigate as we are displaying these works where children and families visit. Please be mindful.
You may enter all four categories with four different artworks.

The professional photographs are put in a drop box after July 9th and are given free to the artists. The 2022 Artist Awards were donated by the same couple who selected the categories. They are present during the judging. 2022 Categories are

1) Climate Change ( or ignoring it.!)
2) Democracy in Action (or not!)
3) Welcome to the USA (or not?)
4) Celebrating Diversity (or not?)

Budget: $1000 awards will be given to 4 artists.

Bladensburg Branch Library: Bowspirit Figurehead

Bladensburg, Maryland

Summary: Prince George’s Arts and Humanities Council in partnership with Prince George’s County Memorial Library System is seeking to commission a local artist to create an original wall art installation for the newly constructed Bladensburg Branch Library. In reference to the port town’s rich maritime history, the prow of a ship, which indicates the entrance to new children’s collection will captivate young patrons through its ‘Discovery Harbor’ theme.

The figurehead should be approximately 5’ in overall stature extending from the first-floor level to the underside of the floor above. A 3-dimensional sculpture casted or carved at an appropriate scale, in proportion to the ‘ship’ structure it accents.

Budget: $62,000

Augmented Reality Exhibition of Real-World Physical Sculpture in Public Sculpture Park

Summary: We are embarking upon a first of its kind exhibition, where real-world physical sculptures will be converted into Augmented Reality and displayed virtually on a real-world pedestal in a public sculpture park. Sculptors have the opportunity to participate in a cutting-edge sculpture exhibition that is anticipated to be the first of its kind in the world: An Augmented Reality exhibition of real-world sculptures that will be virtually displayed via an app onto a real-world outdoor pedestal in a beautiful forested public sculpture park setting.

Your real-world physical sculpture will be digitally transformed for onsite display by a technology startup company we are partnering with.  A custom Augmented Reality phone app has already been created specifically for this exhibition at Price Sculpture Forest.  Visitors will download the app onsite (free WiFi is provided) and be able to view your sculpture via a QR code on your sculpture plaque that shows your name and sculpture title

We are seeking sculptures that fit well within one of our two themes, Nature Nurtured and Whimsy Way, and that can be appreciated in a 360-degree experience walking around your sculpture while being viewed from all sides.  We want to wow visitors so they are intrigued about the possibilities of art and, more importantly, so that visitors leave excited about bringing more art and nature into the rest of their lives.

Budget: Up to 10 selected artists will each be paid a $500 honorarium for your participation.

Summary: Selected artists for MEDLEY will receive a $6,000 honorarium for the temporary lease of the artwork for 24 months, transportation of the work to and from the installation site, and artist fees for on-site availability during installation and de-installation. The honorarium will be paid in two equal payments: one payment at installation and the at de-installation. If multiple pieces are selected from one artist, an honorarium will be awarded for each sculpture
