March Call for Artists: Part 2

Marching right along, we have 24 call for artists with deadlines March 11-31, 2023. Sounds good, right? Well it gets even better as several of these have multiple opportunities for sculptors. Whether you are looking for an exhibition, an art on loan program, or an opportunity for a sculpture commission, be sure to read through and find the right call for you.

Environmental Learning for Kids (ELK) Education Center
Denver, Colorado
Summary: The City of Denver’s Public Art Program seeks to commission an artist or artist team to create original public artwork(s), for the Environmental Learning for Kids (ELK) Education Center in the Montbello neighborhood of Denver, CO.
The panel is very invested in cultural diversity and local history and aspires to create gathering spaces that are inclusive, accessible and welcoming to all nearby residents and Learning Center visitors. The panel hopes to see artwork(s) that acknowledge the land and reflect the rich cultures of the area. The artwork(s) should be interactive and educational, and celebrate coming together in open spaces. Artworks should also speak to the relationships between insects, plant life, animals and humans. Artists applying should have a strong background in community engagement, particularly with youth.

Inspiration Point Park

Summary: The City of Denver’s Public Art Program seeks to commission an artist or artist team to create original public artwork(s), for Inspiration Point Park in Denver, CO. The panel is invested in cultural diversity and local history and aspires to create a gathering space that is inclusive, accessible and welcoming. Artwork should be interactive, with the ability to be enjoyed by multiple generations. Given the name of the park, artists should explore the idea of “inspiration” by creating artworks that spark wonder, delight and joy. The artwork should enhance the natural beauty of the park and invite visitors to “take their time.” It should allow for a moment of physical, mental and emotional respite to appreciate and respect the surrounding natural world.

Texas A&M University Innovative Learning Classroom Building (2)
College Station, Texas
Summary: Texas A&M University announces an open competition for professional artists or artist teams to commission two site-specific public art installations inside and outside of the Innovative Learning Classroom Building (ILCB). Uproar Festival of Public Art
North Carolina
Summary: Uproar Festival of Public Art is a new arts festival coming to North Carolina July 14 – August 12, 2023. High-impact, bold works of art will be showcased throughout Orange County, in the downtown communities of Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and Hillsborough. Sixty works will be selected for display and $27,500 in cash prizes awarded.
Budget: A $500 honorarium for each selected applicant
Deadline: March 15, 2023, 11:59pm (extended from original March 1 deadline)

Eligibility Requirements: Artists must be 18 years old and a resident of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, or West Virginia.
Special Notes: Artists are encouraged to sell their work during Uproar. Sales, including tax payments, will be handled by the Orange County Arts Alliance (the nonprofit partner of the Orange County Arts Commission). The Arts Alliance will retain a 20% commission on any work sold during the festival.

2023-24 Downtown Sculpture Gallery
Auburn, Washington
Summary: The City of Auburn invites sculptors to submit applications for Auburn’s Downtown Sculpture Gallery. The works selected for this public art exhibition will be on loan to the City for a period of twelve months (12) and can be available for sale during that time. City of Auburn’s Downtown Sculpture Gallery showcases 13 sculptures throughout its historic downtown and around the City. Public art is an integral part of the exciting renewal efforts on Main Street and underscores the critical role that artists and public art play in the revitalization of Auburn’s urban core.
Budget: Each selected artist will receive a $1,000 stipend. At the conclusion of the exhibition a sculpture from the exhibition may be purchased for inclusion in the City of Auburn’s permanent collection. The purchase budget is $10,000.

Call For Artists: Temporary Artwork
Germantown, Tennessee
Summary: The Germantown Public Art program is excited to launch Shelby Canopy: Our Shared Connection in the fall of 2023. Through the installation of temporary artwork along the Wolf River Greenway trail system, this project aims to connect citizens of Shelby County, raise awareness of the importance of trees locally and globally and encourage participants to move from knowledge to action.
Artwork should be installed for 5-6 months (Fall-Spring) or the artist should plan to engage participants through a series of engaged activities during this time-frame in a format that makes sense with their work.
Budget: $12,000 Travel/lodging/meals stipend: $1,200

2023 Art on Loan – South Suburban Public Art Committee
Centennial & Littleton, Colorado
Summary: The 2023 Art on Loan Program administered by the South Suburban Public Art Committee (SSPAC), a committee appointed by the South Suburban Park and Recreation District (SSPRD) Board of Directors, is accepting proposals to promote and highlight local and Colorado artists and their work. The program is a year-long outdoor exhibit designed to promote public interest in art, develop community pride, and enhance the visitor experience around the Goodson Recreation Center (Centennial) and The Hudson Gardens & Events Center (Littleton).
Budget: A $500 Exhibitor’s Honorarium is provided to each artist after the artwork is installed in June 2023.

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) “D3” Concourse Restroom Renovation
Seattle, Washington
Summary: The Port of Seattle’s Public Art program is seeking one (1) visual/multi-disciplinary/light artist or artist
teams to submit their qualifications to be considered for this permanent art commission within Seattle Tacoma International Airport’s D Concourse. The work must also consider the aesthetic of the facility and redevelopment design. Proposed artworks must also be thoughtful in regard to long term maintenance and conservation. The work must be appropriate for public presentation considering the wide range of visitors to the airport.
We think of the airport as a microcosm of the region with the main terminal as the heart of the building and each concourse reflects different regional influences that represents the diversity of culture and geography in our region. D Concourse environmental theme: East of Cascade Range- Palouse (Inspiration: agriculture, rugged, wide expanse, textural. Color and Materials: orange, green, tan, sunrise accents)

Summary: The Port of Seattle’s Public Art program is seeking one (1) visual/multi-disciplinary/light artist or artist teams to submit their qualifications to be considered for this permanent art commission within Seattle Tacoma International Airport’s B Concourse. The restroom renovation project includes four (4) locations in B Concourse. The estimated opening date for this restroom is Q4 2023. The public art completion date is flexible to the project completion date.

ArtScape 7
Fayetteville, North Carolina
Summary: The Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County is seeking temporary & permanent art installations for its annual ArtScape 7 public art installation. The Arts Council is looking for 3-D outdoor sculptures/works/installations and will place 15-20 temporary works at varied and diverse outdoor sites in downtown Fayetteville & surrounding areas. Works will be leased for a period of no less than one year. In addition to the temporary installations the Arts Council is also looking to purchase several permanent artworks for the Cape Fear River Trail and Murchison Road Corridor.
Budget: For ArtScape 7 our organization agrees to pay selected artists a one-year lease of $1,500, $3,000, $5,000 or $5,000+. In addition to the lease fee, each sponsored artwork will be allotted a travel stipend of up to $500 per installation.

2023 Old Town Keller Rotating Sculpture Program
Keller, Texas
Summary: The Keller Public Arts Board is seeking six sculptures that are appropriate for public viewing and support the family friendly atmosphere of the City of Keller. Sculptures remain under the artist’s ownership and are loaned to the exhibit for a two-year period. The Keller Public Arts Board aims to install sculptures that are diverse in style and media.
Budget: A $1,500 honorarium shall be awarded for each piece for the installation, exhibition and removal of the artwork for a two-year period.

Art Around Avon 2023

Summary: The Art Around Avon is a program with the goal of selecting up to twenty-five (25) visual art pieces for installation in pre-determined outdoor spaces in early June 2023. The selected artist’s work will be on exhibition in an outdoor location for up to twenty-four (24) months during which time the artist may make the work available for sale.

Town Center Art Around Avon
Avon, Colorado
Summary: The Town Center location is the crowned jewel of the Art Around Avon program. This location is of high significance and priority, an expansive space, centered location on Avon’s main thoroughfare, and has mountain vistas as a backdrop, will demand a prominent work with the ability to be seen by pedestrians from across Avon Road. The proposed work for this location must be a minimum of 12’ tall and a maximum of 20’ tall, be of substantial girth/circumference and fit on a concrete circular pedestal measuring 13’ in diameter.
The selected artist’s work will be on exhibition in an outdoor location for up to twenty-four (24) months during which time the artist may make the work available for sale. The Town shall produce and distribute materials regarding the work for marketing purposes, including photographs of the work for publicity or study. The Town shall retain 20% of the gross sale price of the selected artist work on exhibition in the Town through the Art Around Avon program. If an artist’s work is sold during the exhibition period, the work shall be removed after the decommission date.

2023 REOI: Wailuku Municipal Parking Structure Interior Wayfinding Public Art
Wailuku, Hawaii
Summary: Artists and/or Artist Teams will be commissioned to co-develop with community stakeholders an innovative project that engages a diverse public audience. Themes must be site-specific and address the distinct history and/or culture of Wailuku. There are five (5) areas within the parking structure to choose from (I1 – I5), please see the diagrams attached here. You may choose between 1-5 areas within your expression of interest and budget proposal.
Each of four parking structure levels pays homage to the importance of water to Wailuku. Utilizing the research and community member interviews completed during the Wailuku Municipal Parking Structure design process, the forms of water, the water of Nā Wai ‘Ehā and the life-giving ways that water sustains the community were all offered as themes for projects on this site. Applicants are encouraged to integrate this theme (see PDF for reference) into their statement of interest/ initial ideas for panel consideration.

Summary: The goal of the artwork is to create inviting bike racks that tie to the theme of Center for the Arts. Summary: The Regional Transportation Authority and the City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility in collaboration with the Arts Foundation for Tucson and Southern Arizona invites artists to submit qualifications for the opportunity to create innovative public artwork for the Silverbell: Goret to El Camino del Cerro Project.
The public art opportunity for this project is open to all forms of free-standing public art that can withstand the harsh outdoor Southern Arizona climate. This project calls for 3-5 roadside public artworks to be installed along Silverbell Rd between Goret Rd. and Camino Del Cerro Rd. The artworks should also function as landmarks that include pedestrian/bike path enhancements. (e.g., shade structures, seating, bike racks, etc.) The artwork components will be exposed to harsh desert elements, sustainable materials as well as functionality in this climate are essential to address longevity and maintenance.

Summary: The City of Sunrise, Florida is seeking to commission an Artist or Artist team to create one vibrant sculpture to be located on a new parking lot on 1200 Sunset Strip. The sculpture should reflect the spirit of Sunrise and be impactful to pedestrians and passerby traffic both day and night. This Call to Artists is emphasizing the City of Sunrise’s desire to commission a sculpture that represents our original Sunrise neighborhood which is diverse and has a large Caribbean population. The sculpture must be vibrant and timeless and capable of “holding its own” and making a dramatic statement.
Budget: The selected Artist will be expected to enter into an agreement with the City in an amount not to exceed $72,000.00.

Summary: For 2023 there will be six locations. An artist reception and celebration is planned for October 14, 2023 to give the artists the opportunity to meet the community and talk about their work. The Juror’s Award and a People’s Choice Award (both monetary) will be announced at this event. All works will be for sale with a possible Purchase Award.
