Mid-April Call for Artists

Taxes may be inevitable, but getting the right call for artists sure isn’t! We have a few calls that are still open from our last post (click here for those) plus these additional ones with deadlines this week. So take a break from taxes and put your mind to something more fun!
Cherry Valley Sculpture Trail
Cherry Valley, New York
Summary: CHERRY VALLEY ARTWORKS is happy to invite submissions for sculptures to be exhibited as part of the 2019 Cherry Valley Summer Sculpture Trail in beautiful and historic Cherry Valley, N.Y.
Proposals from established and emerging artists will be considered. Both existing and new sculpture may be submitted.
Though the trail is primarily a venue for outdoor works there are a few storefront locations for works suitable only for indoor display. The exhibition will include invited and juried artists.
Budget: $1000 Grand Prize $500 first prize, Stipends may be available to help with moving expenses.

Elizabeth River Trail
Larchmont
Norfolk, VA
Summary: The Norfolk Public Art Commission and the Elizabeth River Trail Larchmont Planning Committee seek to commission an artist to design and create artwork.
Budget: $50,000
Deadline: 4/18/19

Eligibility Requirements: No restrictions noted
Special Notes: The Larchmont portion of the trail is a picturesque transitional gateway for experiencing the wetlands, the river, wildlife, and amazing sunsets. It is heavily used by neighboring residents for dog walking, exercise and as a gathering spot. It is also an entry point for the trail since the site has parking for bikers, joggers
The ideal artwork for Larchmont should be refreshing, welcoming, inclusive, contemplative, and perhaps mystical. The proximity to the community library full of literary treasures could inspire naturalistic, humanistic or romantic themes.

Cordova Library Sculpture Project
Memphis, TN
Summary: The selection committee expresses interest in a sculpture project that is attention-grabbing, reminds people of the importance of the library and ignites interest in Cordova Library’s various programs, resources and services
Budget: $100,000 (includes three finalist honoraria of $1,500 each)
Deadline: 4/18/19
How to apply: Submittable
Eligibility Requirements: Any artist currently residing within the tri-state area of Tennessee, Arkansas & Mississippi.
Special Notes: Each finalist will receive a $1,500 honorarium for an original design developed specifically for the site, leading to one finalist being commissioned to implement their concept.

Tompkins/Taughannock Giant
Ithaca, New York
Summary: The Tompkins Giant The Community Arts Partnership (CAP) of Tompkins County and the Tompkins County Tourism Program are seeking qualified artists who can be inspired by the story of the Taughannock Giant and who could imagine and create an original larger-than-life outdoor sculpture installation that evokes a similar sense of awe and wonder.
Budget: $18,000

Special Notes: Please note that there could be community volunteer participation, if needed.
It is important to note that the finished piece will NOT HAVE TO BE a giant per se but must suggest a giant in some way.
