Chop House Atrium Project

Toledo, Ohio

Summary: The Arts Commission of Greater Toledo, ProMedica Health Systems and the Chop House Restaurant has convened a Design Review Board to commission a large, hanging, glass, dichroic glass, or acrylic installation to be installed in a 4-story atrium above The Chop House restaurant in the headquarters for ProMedica. We seek contemporary work that is airy, bright, whimsical and is visually interesting from every level of the atrium. The work may take advantage of subtle airflow through the atrium and could incorporate kinetic elements. 

Budget: $40,000 (An additional line item will be made available for the installation of the work. This includes lifts, anchors, hardware, cabling and all other expenses related to the installation of the work. )

Eligibility Requirements: The project is open to all artists residing in the United States, age 18 and over, regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, age, military status, sexual orientation, marital status, or physical or mental disability. Artist teams are eligible to apply, including teams of artists from multiple disciplines.  

Special Notes: three artists or artist teams will be chosen as finalists by the design review board and invited to submit a proposal for consideration. Each finalist will receive $1,000 in compensation for all expenses related to the development of the proposal. Up to $1,000 will be made available for expenses related to site visits, including travel and lodging. Artists will be notified of their status by phone or email no later than February 17th, 2020.

Shoreline Signals

Des Moines, Iowa

Summary: Part of the Central Iowa Water Trails initiative, an investment in over 80 river access points across 150 miles of rivers and creeks, Shoreline Signals will install at river access points across the larger Des Moines region. Artists are asked to create a repeatable prototype project that is interactive and performs two functions:

  • Beckon people to the river’s edge and
  • Advise river users of the water’s relative safety, including flow rate for paddlers and anglers. Water quality data for flow rates, nitrates, and other measures are available at a limited number of sites.

Budget: Three artists (or teams) will be selected to develop proposals. Proposal development will be paid at $5,000 each plus a site visit travel stipend. The overall project has a generous artist fee and a fabrication budget of $75,000 for one or more installed proof of concept prototypes. Additional funds are allocated to support the project with insurance, engineering, and artwork transportation.

Denver Art Museum and Denver Central Public Library Campus

Denver, Colorado

Summary: The City of Denver’s Public Art Program seeks to commission an artist or team of artists to create original public artworks for the Denver Art Museum and Denver Central Public Library Campus. The campus is located in the heart of Denver and the Golden Triangle Creative District.  A selection panel of community representatives, arts professionals, and civic leaders has been assembled to identify art opportunities, and to select and recommend an artist or artist team for this project. The selection panel has identified at least three exterior sites for potential art opportunities.

Special Notes: the selection panel will choose three to five finalists who will create site-specific proposals and be interviewed in a virtual format. Artists will be paid an honorarium for this work. Artists/teams selected as finalists will be required to submit a Diversity & Inclusiveness Form for their proposals to be considered, which will be provided upon notification.

Congress Park Pool & Playground Public Art Project

Denver, Colorado

Summary: The City of Denver’s Public Art Program seeks to commission an artist or artist team for site-specific artworks at the soon-to-be renovated Congress Park Pool & Playground, located at 850 Josephine St.

The goals of the public art commission are to create an inspiring, joyful, safe, and welcoming experience for the users of the pool, playground, and park. Artist(s) should consider how the artwork will enhance the neighborhood culture, celebrate the public space, and improve the urban playground. The Congress Park Pool & Playground Public Art Project Selection Panel is open to the possibility of tactile, interactive, and kinetic artworks.

Budget: $80,000

The selection panel is interested in artists who can demonstrate an understanding of the area’s residents, culture, and surrounding neighborhoods. Emerging artists and artists working in media that is pedestrian-scaled and suitable for outdoor display are especially encouraged to apply.

Special Notes: Park space located between the main entrance of the swimming pool and playground.  Please note the concrete walk currently shown in the aerial image will be removed and replaced. The commissioned artist or artist team will work with the playground design team to finalize the placement for the artwork.

LUMCON

Port of Terrebonne, Louisiana

Summary: The installation should capture the mission and core values of Blue Works (found on page 4 of the full call document). The installation should also marry coastal and ocean with digital, computational, technological, and engineering themes. Artists are greatly encouraged to utilize kinetic and light elements to convey a sense of movement and energy. The installation will be located in the atrium/front lobby area. It is envisioned that the piece will cover the wooden wall on page 5 of the full call document. The piece should ideally serve to generate awe and excitement to all that enter Blue Works.

Town of Apex Inaugural Outdoor Sculpture Walk

Apex, North Carolina

Summary: Sculpture artists are invited to participate in the Town of Apex Inaugural Outdoor Sculpture Walk, scheduled for April 2021- March 2022. This exhibition offers established and emerging professional artists the opportunity to display their sculptures throughout the heart of beautiful downtown Apex, North Carolina.

Budget: Selected artists will each receive a $1,500 honorarium to offset transportation, insurance and other incidental expenses. One artist will be selected by the exhibition juror to receive a $1,500 Best in Show Award, and one artist will be selected by community vote to receive a $1,500 Community Choice Award.

Gallery Without Walls 2021

Lake Oswego, Oregon

Summary: The Arts Council of Lake Oswego is pleased to invite artist submissions of up to three works of art per artist for outdoor public display in Lake Oswego’s nationally recognized, award-winning outdoor Gallery Without Walls exhibit. In its twenty first year, this program’s mission is to integrate art into the daily lives of local residents and visitors to the community by presenting works from regional, national, and international artists that resonate with people of diverse backgrounds.

Budget: Up to fifteen artists will be chosen by the Selection Committee to display in Lake Oswego. Selected artists will be awarded an honorarium of $1000. Selected artists are also eligible for an annual People’s Choice purchase award of up to $20,000 (with a 30% gallery fee).

Summary: The commissioned artwork will be the first public artwork on the Coppin State University campus. Given its importance to the University and its prominent high visibility location, the artwork should honor the history and presence of the University as an urban HBCU with an open door to the Baltimore community. The artwork should reflect the overall values of the University to connect, inspire and empower the residents of Baltimore and the state.

Aviation Artist Pool

Summary: The City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) in partnership with the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) invites Chicago-based professional artists and artist teams to submit qualifications for potential inclusion in Chicago’s Aviation Artist Pool. The Aviation Artist Pool is a mechanism for selecting artists for public art opportunities at Chicago O’Hare and Midway Airports.

Public art is an integral part of upcoming capital improvement projects at airports, enhancing the visitor experience and signaling passenger arrival to Chicago, a welcoming, world-class cultural destination. The Aviation Artist Pool will facilitate the creation of public art and other special commissions by identifying artists with a demonstrated history of completing large-scale, site-specific public art projects, and/or creating artworks suitable for acquisition and display in an airport facility. As commissioning or acquisition opportunities arise, the City will draw from the Aviation Artist Pool to identify artists to create proposals.

Prospectus #261 T.I.M.E. NOW: Bosque Redondo Historic Site

Fort Sumner, New Mexico

Summary: The strongest proposals will be works that engage the temporary nature of the T.I.M.E. NOW project (Temporary Installations Made for the Environment) and consider the cultural and local histories of the area. A strong community engagement component that provides genuine enrichment must be considered in collaboration with the site.

Site-specific works are strongly encouraged. Artwork should appeal to both local residents and visitors to the area.

No artwork requiring concrete pads or other environmentally damaging approaches will be considered. The artist will return the installation site to its original condition during scheduled artwork removal, subject to the approval of the site representative. Media must be low maintenance, safe for both children and adults, ADA compliant, and not leave a permanent mark on the environment when removed.

Budget: New Mexico Arts has allocated $10,000 for the project, with $2,500 per artist/artist team.

Eligibility Requirements: The project is open to New Mexico and Navajo Nation residents aged 18 years and older. Artists in all stages of their careers are encouraged to apply.

Special Notes: There is no access to electricity at the sites. To prevent irreparable environmental damage, no large holes may be dug or foreign organic materials released into the environment. Artwork must be sufficiently secured against high winds and intense weather conditions. The artist understands that their artwork may be subject to damage, vandalism or theft at any time due to the temporary nature and outdoor setting of the project.

Public Art Artist Roster for 2021- 2023

Summary: The Seattle Office of Arts & Culture (ARTS) is creating an artist roster of approximately 200-300 artists, that will include both artists who are emerging into the field and experienced public artists, who will be pre-qualified for future public art projects in 2021-2023 within city utility facilities, parks, street right-of-way, and other locations.

Summary: The City of Cambridge, Massachusetts, is seeking qualifications from artists interested in creating a site-responsive outdoor public artwork for what will be the newly constructed Tobin Montessori and Vassal Lane Upper Schools complex, located at 197 Vassal Lane in northwest Cambridge.

UNL Mabel Lee Hall Public Art RFQ

Lincoln, Nebraska

Summary: This new MLH replacement building will house College of Education and Human Sciences (CEHS), which is dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals, families, schools, and communities and to strengthening the relationships among them. To achieve this mission, CEHS provides state-of-the art education programs for students, conducts research, carries out creative work, and applies knowledge through outreach. CEHS is one of the 4 largest colleges on the UNL campus, serving both undergraduate and graduate students, as well as conducting outreach/extension in all 93 Nebraska counties. This building will house the Dean’s Office, the CEHS Business Center, the Nebraska Center for Research on Children, Youth, Families and School (CYFS), the Department of Child, Youth and Family Studies (CYAF), the Department Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education (TLTE), and a portion of the Department of Nutrition and Health Sciences (NHS).

Budget: $330,300

2021 Spotlight on Wake Forest Artists

Project Head (H3)

Summary: The Wake Forest Public Art Commission (PAC) invites Wake Forest Guild of Artist members, 9-12 grade students living in Wake Forest, and artists residing within the Town of Wake Forest and it’s ETJ (extraterritorial jurisdiction) to submit one piece of original art to the Spotlight on Wake Forest Artists Contest. There is no entry fee.

The art piece may be oriented either in landscape or portrait style. There are no restrictions on the type or theme of the art except that it must also fit within the societal boundaries of good taste. It must be a piece of art that can be faithfully reproduced digitally.

Images of two-dimensional or mixed media art or photographs of pottery, woodwork, jewelry and other art mediums are accepted. Each of the four selected art works will be scanned into an electronic image. The electronic image of each selected art piece will be reproduced in vinyl and mounted on a building in Wake Forest. All artists entering the contest will keep their original artwork.

Budget: Each of the selected artists will receive an honorarium of $100.00 and will have their art on display for one year.
