Updated with 24 call for artists with deadlines September 16-30, 2023. Many of these calls actually have multiple opportunities for sculptors, whether that is for commissions, purchases of existing artwork, art on loan programs and rosters to be eligible for future calls with that entity. Read them all now and pick the one (or ones) that best suits you and apply now.

Multi-Modal Transit Facility
Wichita – Delano, Kansas
Summary: Four art-opportunity locations exist within the Transit Facility, to be completed on or before June of 2025.

Norfolk, Virginia
Summary: The committee wants bright, energetic artwork that relates the stories of Huntersville, celebrating its rich heritage and history. Beautiful and meaningful, modern but not completely abstract, the artwork should stimulate thought and appeal to multiple generations. It should tell of a resilient neighborhood of people who speak for themselves, mentor their youth, and honor their elders.

Eligibility Requirements: This project is open to all artists over 18 years of age. Local artists of color are especially welcome to apply.
Special Notes: The artwork should be pedestrian scale yet attract attention from vehicles on the adjacent and very busy Tidewater Drive. The artwork must be made of durable, permanent materials that are safe and easily maintained, standing the test of time and the elements.

Percent for Art Call for Artists: Broad-Germantown-Erie Intersection
Philadelphia,
Summary: The Office of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy (OACCE) and the City of Philadelphia announce a competition to commission site-specific public artwork to be installed at the intersection of Broad, Germantown, and Erie (BGE).
The BGE Percent for Art project will provide several opportunities for two- and three- dimensional public artworks throughout the Erie and Butler Triangles. The artworks will be inspired by positive quotes and sayings that were selected by the community. The art may be expressed in a variety of artistic mediums, including etchings and mosaics, embedded into surfaces within the intersection as well as sculptural works.

Eligibility Requirements: The City of Philadelphia’s Percent for Art program invites all interested artists to apply for this public art commission and encourages artists to consider forming multi-disciplinary artist teams where appropriate. Priority will be given to artists or artist teams who reflect the diversity of the Nicetown/Tioga community, and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) and female artists or artist teams are strongly encouraged to apply. Qualified local artists or artist teams who live or work in the community around the Broad, Germantown, Erie intersection will also be prioritized for this opportunity, but any artist may apply.

Great Streets Initiative – CityPlace Streetscape Project
Burlington, Vermont
Summary: The Great Street Initiative: The CityPlace Streetscape Project will commission one public artwork to be incorporated into the design of the sidewalk adjacent to and surrounding the larger CityPlace Development project. The proposed public artwork may include but are not limited to stand-alone sculpture, artwork integrated into the design of existing infrastructure such as granite curbs or stormwater sites, or other amenities such as bike racks, planters, and seating.

Burlington International Airport Hallway Project
Burlington, Vermont
Summary: Burlington International Airport (BTV) in Burlington, Vermont, is excited to partner with Burlington City Arts (BCA) on a call to artists for a new permanent artwork at the airport.
Budget: $50,000 ($2,500 for up to five $500 stipends for the shortlisted artists from the RFQ round to develop their full proposals, and $50,000 for the final selected artwork.)

Indianapolis International Airport North Garden Sculpture Loan
Indianapolis, Indiana
Summary: The Indianapolis Airport Authority (IAA) invites artists to provide proposals to temporarily install a work of art outdoors at the Indianapolis International Airport. This opportunity is for one pre-existing, free-standing work of art to remain on display in the North Terminal Garden for two (2) years.
The artist will also agree to give the IAA the right of first refusal to purchase the artwork at a pre-established price, which will be negotiated between the artist and the IAA as part of the loan agreement. The IAA must exercise its right before the end of the two-year loan period. Loan fees paid to the artist will apply towards the purchase of the artwork by the IAA.
Budget: $5,000 for the two-year loan period; in addition, the IAA will reimburse the artist for up to $5,000 in direct expenses related to transportation, installation and deinstallation of the work.

NESA 75th Anniversary Gala ~ Silent Auction Call for Art
New England Sculptors Association, Westwood, MA
Summary: As part of our celebration on November 4th, we are planning to offer a silent auction with a variety of indoor sculptures, outdoor sculptures, other artwork produced by our members, and some fun gift baskets. We are asking members to consider donating one of their pieces for this as an opportunity to support NESA and to showcase their work.

Public Art Roster
Sarasota, Florida
Summary: The City of Sarasota Public Art Program is accepting applications to the 2024-2026 Artist Roster from August 21, 2023 – September 25, 2023. The Artist Roster is a list of artists who pre-qualify to work with the City’s public art program. It allows for a simplified and transparent selection process. The Roster will become the main tool for choosing artists for citywide public art projects for the Public Art Program as we launch new goals and strategies associated with the Public Art Plan.
Successful applicants will be eligible for projects from January 2024 – September 2026. If accepted, we will share the portfolio that you submit with local art selection committees.

Mothership Youth Shelter

Summary: The City of Denver’s Public Art Program seeks to commission an artist or artist team to create original public artwork(s), for the Mothership Youth Shelter. The selection panel members have set forth specific goals and parameters for this public art project with the hope of creating unique and inspiring works of art for the diverse communities that will interact with the Mothership Youth Shelter.
The selection panel is open to artwork in all media and materials suitable for outdoor display.

University of Colorado Boulder Hellem Arts & Sciences Building – Request for Qualifications
Boulder, Colorado
Summary: Qualifications are requested from artists interested in creating public artworks for the Hellems Arts and Sciences Building at the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado. The committee is looking for artworks that address one or more of the potential locations within the Hellems Arts and Sciences Building. Among the locations available for artwork are wall-mounted opportunities and one ceiling-hung location. The building cannot accommodate three-dimensional sculptural artworks on the floor of any spaces. The committee is interested in multiple artworks from multiple artists;
- Opportunity 1 –wall in the entry space on the first floor of the building
- Opportunity 2A – 2C–multiple walls at the entrance of the east wing on floors 1B, Level 1 and Level 2.
- Opportunity 3A – 3B–walls along the hallway of the office wing of Levels 1 and 2.
- Opportunity 4–ceiling and two-floor volume space in the new entrance/student area. The committee is excited for the potential of a hanging artwork that highlights this open area
- Opportunity 5–stairs located at each of the 4 quadrants of the building.

Summary: The One Columbia Public Art Roster is a curated list that serves as a resource for One Columbia public art selection committees and as a reference for external organizations and private entities. Lexington Freedom Train: A Public Art Monument to Lewis and Harriet Hayden
Lexington, Kentucky
Summary: LexArts, in partnership with the Lexington Freedom Train Memorial Committee, seeks an artist or artist team to create an artwork that honors Lewis and Harriet Hayden, two of Lexington’s enslaved who became famed abolitionists, to remember the stories of other enslaved persons in Lexington and to commemorate their paths to freedom via Lexington’s Underground Railroad.
There can be no learning or healing by selectively forgetting or hiding the past, it must be confronted. This monument, to be located just a few blocks from what was Kentucky’s largest slave market, will be a constant and visible reminder of our racist history. It will honor not only Lewis and Harriet Hayden, but every enslaved Lexingtonian, and will be one of the first monuments in the city representing enslaved African Americans.

Prospectus #273 Large Scale Purchase Initiative
New Mexico
Summary: The objective of the Large Scale Purchase Initiative is to diversify the state’s public art collection by purchasing artwork from artists in all stages of their career. Our goal is to reflect the diversity of the arts in New Mexico, the Southwest, and the nation while building a dynamic public art collection for the State of New Mexico. Please note that only ONE application per artist will be considered. Galleries are able to create multiple applications for multiple artists they represent.
Budget: $50,000 – $200,000 (Purchase contracts will be a $50,000 minimum for each artwork.)

Public Art for Department of Public Safety West Facility
Southlake, Texas
Summary: The City of Southlake seeks to commission new artworks for visually prominent locations in the community. The Department of Public Safety West Facility is located on the west side of Southlake. This is the only Public Safety Facility that does not feature public art.
The artwork should: Feature a public Safety (Police and Fire) theme; Compliment the architecture and design of the building; Be of the highest quality; Create interest for the community; Enrich the quality of life and visual environment for all residents and visitors of the city; Reflect the mission and values of the City of Southlake; Convey the integrity of the Department of Public Safety police and fire professionals; and Be appropriate to the identified location, durable and low maintenance. The goal of the piece is to be visible from Southlake Boulevard.

Summary: The selection panel is looking for a unique, one-of-a-kind, monument-sized artwork that is appropriate for placement in front of a public safety facility and for the diverse Lewisville community. Our vision is for something in a contemporary style that is visually striking and can be seen from the nearby intersection of Main Street and Valley Parkway. It is not required that the theme of the artwork be directly connected to public safety functions and imagery, or to Lewisville or Texas history.

CT Aids Memorial
Hartford, Connecticut
Summary: The Shawn Lang Memorial Task Force is seeking artist qualifications to create the CT AIDS Memorial monument. The Task Force is named after Shawn Lang, a longtime CT advocate who spent her life fighting injustices.
This public art should serve as motivation for the justice work ahead. It will be a piece that encourages our souls to be stirred as we step into the arena, and into the complex work of confronting the racial/social/political inequities in CT. It is public art for justice.
Budget: The do-not-exceed budget for this project is currently $175,000.
