There is a lot to be thankful for this month as we announce 19 call for artists with deadlines November 1-30, 2023. Opportunities range in size and can be found across the Continental US as well as Canada. Most of these calls are for site-specific commissions, but there are other options for sculptors. Budgets also range, from small to a handsome 6 figures. Find your perfect call and apply now!

Woodson Park Sports Complex
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Summary: This is an open call for artists’ qualifications to be considered for a 3D Public Art Installation that will be located at the new Woodson Park Sports Complex in Oklahoma City, OK. The installation can include kinetic, lighting, or other creative elements, but is not required.
The Artist or Team that is selected for the Award must identify a locally based (living within a 120-mile radius of the Project site) Project Representative, who is the main Project contact, and who can be on site or react on 24 hours’ notice as needed for construction meetings and other contingencies. Artists may designate themselves, if locally based.

Anchorage Senior Center
Anchorage, Alaska
Summary: Municipality of Anchorage is inviting qualified artists to create public artwork proposals for the Anchorage Senior Center’s newly renovated facility, located in Anchorage, Alaska. There are two location options within the front lawn area that are available for proposal development under this commission. Both locations are within the facility’s front lawn.
The overarching themes discussed by the Art Selection Jury focus on gardening and finding beauty in nature. Successful proposals will be both thoughtful and whimsical, providing enjoyment to residents, visitors, and the surrounding community.

Parks Maintenance Facility Exterior Sculpture
Thornton, Colorado
Summary: Adams County seeks a professional artist to design, fabricate, and install an exterior sculpture at the new Adams County Parks Maintenance Facility on Riverdale Road. The facility will house offices and maintenance shops for the Parks, Open Space & Cultural Arts Department, Park Rangers, and staff from the Community Safety and Well-being Department. The sculpture design should speak to the work of these groups. The sculpture design should reflect the mission of the Parks, Open Space, and Cultural Arts Department, to “significantly enhance quality of life, enrich communities, and INSPIRE”
The selected artist will work closely with the Parks, Open Space, and Cultural Arts Department, Essenza Architecture, and FCI Constructors to integrate the sculpture into the landscaping.

Center for STEM, Power Mechanics, & Applied Technologies / RFQ
Aurora, Colorado
Summary: Qualifications are requested from artists interested in creating an exterior public artwork for the Center for STEM, Power Mechanics and Applied Technologies at the Community College of Aurora.
An exterior artwork should create a connection along the pathway to the existing campus and serve as a location for students to gather, study, and relax. This artwork should work within the existing campus landscape and orient students and visitors to the Center. Please refer to the additional provided images and plans here.

RFQ: Floresta Roundabout Public Art
Port St. Lucie, Florida
Summary: The City of Port St. Lucie is seeking an artist or artist team to design, fabricate, and install a large-scale, dynamic, site-specific artwork for a future roundabout on Floresta Drive near Floresta Elementary School. The artist(s) selected for the commission will conceptualize and identify appropriate aesthetic treatments for proposed project elements. The artist(s) must be able to work in collaboration with a Project Team made up of the representatives from the City of Port St. Lucie, the project designer, the departments responsible for the site, city leadership and the community.
An honorarium of $2,000 will be provided to up to 3 finalists to develop preliminary concepts.

“Eye On Art” x Ion Prototyping Lab Window Installations for Ion District
Houston, Texas
Summary: Ion, Rice Real Estate Company and Ion Prototyping Lab (IPL) invite artists to submit qualifications and preliminary installation proposals for the inaugural Eye On Art x IPL collaboration. This is an opportunity for artists to partner on ideating, fabricating, and realizing a concept through mentorship with the prototyping lab onsite at the Ion. Our goal is to provide artists with the support and resources to develop new skills that help them take their practice to the next level.
We are seeking two artists or artist teams to partner with IPL to concept and create site-specific art installations for two showcase display windows at Ion, facing Fannin and Main Streets, respectively. The displays are highly visible from the streets and will ideally engage and attract visitors from the community and beyond. Each installation will be on display for six months according to the following exhibition schedule and is subject to change:

Lexington Detention Center Public Art
Lexington, Kentucky
Summary: Though set just outside of the center of Lexington, the Lexington Detention Center is deeply connected to the City of Lexington as well as to the many surrounding towns and counties that are home to incarcerated individuals as well as Detention Center employees. A progressive facility, the Lexington Detention Center has just implemented a Second Chance Academy to aid inmates with essential job training and job placement and to facilitate inmates’ successful reintegration into society. Programs such as this exemplify the Detention Center’s recognition that “What we do here, matters everywhere.”
The content for the artwork must be suitable for public consumption and should be sensitive to and respond to the primary site of the Lexington Detention Center. Artists may reflect upon and recognize the human worth, dignity, and value of individuals incarcerated there, of public servants who work there, and of family members impacted by both those incarcerated as well as by those serving the facility. The artwork should inspire reflection and hope and serve as a positive beacon of rehabilitation and renewal.
Lighting of the work (interior and exterior) is highly desirable and necessary for the site.

Eligibility Requirements: Artists and design teams must be professional and practicing artists residing in Kentucky, Indiana, or Ohio with experience working with medium to large-scale public art installations. Artists must be legally able to work in the United States and be at least 18 years of age.
Special Notes: A potential site of 40 ft. x 40 ft., within a .37 acre (133 ft. x 122. ft.) area has been designated for the public artwork. Artists and design teams may elect to use all or part of this area for the design.

Request for Qualifications: Mosaic/Mural Public Art Installation
Frankfort, Kentucky
Summary: The project is a collaboration between the City of Frankfort and Josephine Sculpture Park (JSP) which manages and curates the project. JSP is a 30 public sculpture park open to visitors for free from dawn until dusk 365 days per year with the mission of connecting people to each other and the land through the arts. JSP will serve as the main point of contact for all aspects of this project.
JSP is seeking an installation that is inspired by the Kentucky River. The KY River is a tributary of the Ohio River, meandering 260 miles through much of the central region of KY and directly through Frankfort. It is a freshwater river that supplies drinking water to 700,000 people and a wide range of agricultural lands. Steamboat traffic arrived in Frankfort around 1817, and Frankfort quickly became a hub for transporting resources, such as timber, tobacco, and hemp and passenger traffic, although the river’s modern use is primarily recreational.

Special Notes: Mosaic Tile and Painted Mural: A large portion of the installation should be completed in mosaic tile with paint used to accent and enhance the mosaic work.

Rhode Island Office of the Medical Examiner

Summary: Artwork for the new RI Office of State Medical Examiners will be commissioned by the Department of Capital Asset, Management and Maintenance (DCAMM) on behalf of the RI Department of Health (RIDOH) and the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts (RISCA)

Carl G. Brewer Community Center – Public Art

Summary: The existing recreation center at McAdams Park was renamed to honor the legacy of the late Carl G. Brewer, the first African American elected mayor of the City of Wichita. The goals of this project are to celebrate African American leadership and to continue an on-going relationship with the country of Ghana that Mayor Brewer helped to initiate more than 10 years ago.

Lucid Art Residency Program 2024
Inverness, California
Summary: Lucid Art encourages nonrepresentational ways of exploration through mixed-media, conceptual, eco-art, and interdisciplinary approaches. The residency is a 3-week stay for artists in serene, retreat-like surroundings. This program encourages artists to delve into a contemplative state with their studio work. Solitary explorations in a remote place enable artists to unplug from their daily routines and find a deeper connection with nature.
Budget: The residency will provide a house to live in, located in the center of the Foundation campus in Inverness, California. There is no stipend, no meals provided

Inspiration Way 2024
Tamarac, Florida
Summary: Art on Loan program in Tamara, Florida. The City will produce publicity materials and will promote the exhibition. Sale of exhibited artwork will be encouraged and a 25% commission on works sold during the exhibition will remain with the City.
The City’s Public Art Committee will review all complete applications to select several artists for recommendations to the City Commission. After award and approval by the City Commission, the sculptures should be ready for the Exhibition. Selections are based on artistic excellence and the goal of exhibiting a variety of styles and media in appropriate sites.

- Selected artists will receive a total honorarium of $2,500 per selected artwork that is intended to cover all expenses, including travel and property insurance should the artist choose to have the artwork covered for property damage or loss while on loan to the City.

Summary: The Artist Council is an eight-member group of artists selected to create temporary public art projects. This group will be a platform for artist-led strategies and meaningful discussions about LA County Arts and Culture’s public art, equity, and inclusion policies and procedures. Selected artists will participate in an 8 to 10 month long, two-part program of dialogue and art creation.

Public Art Proposal Development in Iowa

Summary: Group Creative Services is looking for artists to engage with a variety of communities around the midwest through the proposal and development of public art. Projects range in scope and scale. We are specifically looking for artists and collectives with diverse, interdisciplinary practices that engage communities and take public art in new directions.
We’re looking for artists who can propose and also execute public artwork based on unique criteria from a given community. Meaning, we are not interested in simply repeating past successes from elsewhere. We are interested in public art that goes beyond the mural and engages with communities and ideas if place-making.

Summary: The City of Olympia is seeking an artist or artist team to repurpose an old steel water tank located on the site of the Grass Lake Nature Park into three sculptural elements to be sited in the park: one bird blind and two entryway markers.

Summary: Weingarten Art Group invites artists who live in or are originally from the Greater Houston area to submit artwork for the second year of the Houston Endowment Jones Artist Awards Program. In 2024, the Jones Artist Awards Program will feature one solo exhibition and two group exhibitions. Up to 4 artists may be selected to participate in the group exhibitions.
Paintings, photography, works on paper, sculpture, site-specific multi-media installations, lightworks, painted murals, digital designs that can be printed as vinyl wall covering, and video & new media. Public Art for MAPS 4 Fairgrounds Coliseum

Summary: Create a landmark work, defining a grand entrance to the Fairgrounds. An arroyo runs through the median of the Boulevard; a work spanning the arroyo is preferred and/or addressing both sides of the arroyo or Boulevard is envisioned. Works that innovatively reference horses and horse culture are encouraged, but not required. The major criterion for the work that will ultimately be selected is that it has the immediate potential to become the memorable visual representation of the Fairgrounds.
3-5 Finalists will be chosen. Finalists will attend a mandatory site tour. At final presentations Finalists will make conceptual design reports to the selection committee, and an artist or team will be chosen for the art award.

Summary: The City of SeaTac invites artists to submit proposals to be placed in Riverton Heights Park, which is being redesigned to include additional amenities. A total of two original pieces will be selected and purchased.

ArtTracts Palestine, Tx Public Sculpture Installation 2024

Summary: ArtTracks is an outdoor juried exhibit of work view-able by pedestrian and vehicular traffic installed on private property throughout downtown. Up to 6 artists will be selected this year for a 2 year placement Feb 2024 – 2026. Artists are encouraged to submit work for consideration even if there is a current piece in our show.

Nicolet College Public Art RFQ

Summary: Seeking artist(s) qualified to supply artwork that strengthens our involvement of community partners and celebrates diverse cultures or groups within our campus and district. Accepting proposals to create and install public artwork on our scenic campus. We are commissioning the conceptualization, production, and installation of the following art project parameters by artist(s). The actual installation site(s) on our campus will be collaboratively determined by the artist(s) and College stakeholders. Finalists will be chosen by a selection panel. Each finalist will receive a stipend to propose 1-2 conceptual, site-specific, designs.
