Artist Creates Stunning Sculptures Carved From…Pencil Tips
Sculptors use a variety of tools in order to create their works of art. What Bosnian sculptor Jasenko Đorđević did is unique. He took a basic tool used by most artists, and turned them into works of art.
He carves, not just pencils, but the tips of pencils, using tiny chisels and an X-Acto knife.
Graphite or “black lead” is Đorđević’s material of choice, “since it is hard and fragile at the same time. One has to be very careful when working with black lead, as the smallest lack of attention can lead to its cracking.”
Looking at a close up of the finished work, if the body of the pencil were not evident you might think these were carved out of stone, or a charred piece of wood.
